Okay, I've heard that you can get pregnant about a year or so after having surg. I'm wondering if anyone has first hand experience. Not that I'm putting a baby on the schedule at this time but I'm wondering what the long term affects will be in that department. I heard getting the lapband was the better option if you planned to get pregnant.
Any thoughts or advice??

deb... it's all in the timing. if you plan to get pregnant SOON, the lapband might be a better choice because you have a lower risk of nutritional deficiencies.
having said that, women who've had gastric bypass can and do have healthy pregnancies and healthy babies BUT my docs told us that we should not get pregnant for the first 12-18 months because we were at too high a risk of nutritional defiiciences. and since the baby takes everything it needs, we'd be really compromised.
unfortunately, the weight loss often corrects infertiility, so that those women who weren't getting their cycles are suddenly extremely fertile.
soooo talk with your doc. this is a tricky area. but bottom line: you CAN have a healthy baby. it'll just take some time.
Well, I'd have to find a man first....maybe Hugh Jackman will be free this time next year? lol. Thanks for the advice Jiffy. I'd asked my OBGYN about it and got, "that's an interesting question".......geez, what do I pay these people for? Wasn't planning on anything that quick anyway just wanted know what my options are....
