ACK!!! My eyebrows!!

  • Ok ladies---

Need some advice, I tweezed my eyebrows this afternoon as I usually do and boy, they don't look to good.........
So I decided to kind of "patch" up the bare area's that I created and when I looked in the mirror I had to laugh!! I reminded myself of Groucho Marx!! They were so dark and ugly!! Oh geez.....

I need advice on how to shape them puppies!! I want a glamourous eyebrow not some drawn on thing!! How do you shape them? I've tried doing what I've read, but I don't think I'm doing it right. I either over tweeze or not tweeze enough!!

    Any suggestions?

  • Ok - I just saw this on a tv show - maybe Extra , but I can't remember. It sounds like you need an engineering degree at first, but it's not that hard once you actually do it..... you need a regular pencil or something straight

For the front end of the brow, lay the pencil so the edge lays along the middle of your nostril. The upper edge is your guide for where the brow should end...

For the arch, put one end of the pencil next to your nostril, run it through the middle of your pupil Where it intersects your brow is where it should arch.

For the other end of the brow, line the pencil from the edge of your nostril along the edge of your eye

Judging by the photo in your avatar, they already look pretty good, if you ask moi!
  • So RK, do I have to put my head on a drafting table first before I try this??

I remember reading something about it before, and I forgot so trying to do it myself was something else. I've got some really thin spots at the moment. Thank goodness they grow fast!

Thanks for the tips...I will try it out in a few days!

  • RosieKate's advice is right on target! I have seen the same guidelines in magazines. Not that I am able to follow it, either, Marti, lol. I just pluck out the strays - usually before I need a weedwacker, color in the gray ones, and hope for the best. With my new glasses -which should be in this week - I will have to do a better job!
  • I get mine done at the Punjabi market and it costs me $6Cdn for my upper lip and my eyebrows. It's done by threading- they catch the hair between two strands of thread that they roll across your face. Very fast, precise and way less pain than waxing. Call around to Indian or Chinese salons and see if you can find a place that does it.

Otherwise, I'd say go get them waxed or plucked by someone who knows what they're doing and just maintain the shap yourself. I can usually get away with getting mine shaped only every 2-3 months and I'm quite lazy about keeping them up. I really go more when my upper lip starts looking too shaggy.

Main thing is know where to stop- nothing looks worse or ages you more than overplucked brows. No matter what your age, if you pluck beyond the muscle that presses together when you scowl or frown, you're going to look ten years older. My 20-something cousins are particular offenders on this and I think they look terrible.
  • OMG, you are right! It IS the older ladies who have the pencil-thin brows... hmmm..... maybe I'll go for the uni-brow and look 16 again.
  • Marti exactly what RK said,
I go to Merle Norman every 4th or so month,,I usually can maintain my brows in between,,,,I also get my legs waxed, and gulp hate to say but my nuckles...
My friend, Georgia, had electrolisis,,and said she would raither, be in labour with fat headed twins....lol I take that to mean i hurt bad! And as a friend I will take that to heart and never do that.

  • Sorry Marti~I can't give any advice on the ole eyebrows. Unlike you ladies I don't have much there so can't really pluck or wax anything. Oh, there is a hair or two that probably should be plucked but... I just fill in the gaps with eyebrow pencil! Not much on plucking anyway. Tried it once, actually a couple of times, and here is how it went...pluck, owwwww! pluck, owwww! pluck, owwww, forget it this hurts too much! They probably need to be shaped though.
  • How funny Cristi...I can actually hear you!! I had to giggle over that!!

I'm going to attempt to restructure my brows this weekend. And hopefully I will still have some when I'm done!!
  • Marti: my two cents worth. We have a beauty school here in springfield, not sure if there is one in cottage grove. But, they have brow shaping, waxing, etc, for about 7.00, I think anyway. Beauty Schools are a great place to get cheap manicures, facials, pedicures ( which are heavenly) and waxing, brows, etc. Plus you are helping students earn their points and hours. I just don't know if I would trust them to cut my hair, I need experience to have that done. Just a thought anway, it is nice to be pampered and have it be fairly inexpensive
  • Good idea Shanna!
