Brown Sugar Substitute

  • Do regular grocery stores carry this? I have come across several recipes that call for it, but haven't found it anywhere.

    Suggestions?
  • I think they have a Brown Sugar Twin which of course my market doesnt carry
  • Karen,

I bought the Brown Sugar Sugar Twin at Whole Foods but I may have seen it at Target Supercenter as well.
  • They actually had it at Albertson's- only $1.00 a box!
  • I get brown sugar twin at my Albertson's market, too--- I like it a lot! Usually a low carb/health foods store (if you have one in your area) will carry it. You might also search for it online--- I know a lot of people that have gotten hard to find low carb stuff this way.

    Good luck!
  • Sweet-N-Low also makes a brown sugar sub that's pretty good.
  • Sweet-n-low and Twin give me a headache, so I haven't tried either of their brown sugar substitutes...does anyone else have the problem, and if so, have you tried the brown sugar sub? I wonder if it would give me the same reaction?

Dr. A mentions in the SBD Cookbook that there is a Splenda liquid brown sugar sub. that you can buy online.
  • The site that Dr. A mentioned for the Splenda liquid brown sugar is down, but I found this recipe (I'll also post it in the recipe forum):

    Brown Sugar Substitute
    From Carroll Pellegrinelli,

    adapted from a SPLENDA® recipe

1 cup SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener, Granular
1/4 cup Sugar-Free Maple Syrup, preferably made with SPLENDA®

    Mix ingredients well.
Replaces 1 cup of regular brown sugar to be used when baking.
