Jowl meat in green beans???

  • I cooked some fresh green beans from my neighbors garden today. I added a chunk of smoked jowl to the pot. Does the jowl add points to the beans if it ISNT eaten?? Thanks for the imput!!
  • It probably adds some flavor as well as some oils. I'd probably add 1 or 2 points to the whole pot and if I ate more than 1 serving I'd add a point to be safe.
  • Thanks Kelly, I thought it wouldnt be too bad since we didnt actually eat the jowl.
  • What's a jowl?
  • It's the pig's cheek - mostly fat with a little streaky lean. Much better way to season green beans - cook in broth. No points.
  • Interesting.

My mom usually just steams them and adds some herbs or ms. dash for a special touch. I like my veggies crispy. I like using lemon & rosemary or basil. Dill is really good too, especially with summer squashes.

For a similar style dish, what about making mini meatballs with lean sausage meat or that fake sausage? You could also cook it with some turkey bacon.
