OK you gardeners.....

  • You are now all my heros! I just spent 2 hours in mine getting it ready to plant. I had some weeds in there that I had to yell "timber" for. I can't believe it got out of hand so bad. It's a large garden that I have put into beds. Should be easy to upkeep, but......................I HURT SOOO BAD!!! I know, call a wambulance!

You guys that do this all the time must be in such good shape! I found new muscles...........
  • And to think I never count gardening as esercise! Stooooopid me!
  • Good for you, RNMom!! You're using an entirely new set of muscles!
I spent 3 hours hacking back trees in my garden last weekend. Gardening DEFINITELY counts!!
  • I wish I could garden! Heck, I can't even find a window box for fresh herbs. DArned apartment living!
  • My back goes on me if I do too much so......when it hurts in the mornings, I take two iubprofen (sp?) and sit with the heating pad on my back for 20 minutes BEFORE I start to garden. It helps.
It does get you in shape. I'm sure the 4 pounds I lost in May was due to gardening as I sure as heck was not OP all the time!
  • Yes, it can be very hard work. I can't do it right now cause I'm recovering from surgery and I miss it so much. I sat around the house for 3 weeks with my foot propped up looking at the yard and thinking of all the things I wanted to do but couldn't. It's so frustrating!
  • Ah, Jenn, I feel your pain. We were in an apt. for years before we got the house. Gardening is a great pleasure but a lot of pressure too, when you are super busy. So just enjoy this time with less pressures and more fun!

I just read in Cooking Light (they have a fitness section too) that researchers have found that gardening helps more with bone density (which means less chance of osteoporosis) than any other exercise. Who knew? It definitely is good exercise, and even with a huge water bottle, I swear I lose at least three pounds in sweat while doing it!
