Phase 2: how many and what kinds of starchy carbs?

  • I'm on week 2 or 3 of phase 2 now and I still don't eat many starch carbs. Just wondering how many you all eat and what kinds. I'm not sure if I should add more or not. cause right now i only have maybe a small whole wheat pita every other day. and thats basically it! I'm scared to add in starchy carbs but now that i've been in phase 2 for a bit longer I'm thinking I should maybe add more. I don't know what would be better for me now and long term. I'm not seeing any dramatic weight loss week to week either, wondering if I should change it up. I also work out about 3-4 times a week (1 hr cardio). Advice?

    thanks!
  • I would add some oatmeal or cereal like Fiber One, if you like them. Lots of fiber. Seem good for the heart. I also like some sweet potato.
  • I added an apple and the oatmeal (the recipe in the book with the cinnamon and walnuts is wicked).
  • Hi, Pika!

There are so many choices that I find it hard to pick just one! I started out with the full amount of both fruits and starches, and have weaned myself down to one fruit and one starch a day...that seems to be working. Some of the things I have found and/or liked:

    +WW Pita
    +WW bread
+Flavored WW wraps (onion, tomato, etc)
    +WW Pasta
    +Spelt Pasta
+Cereal (check out Special K's new Low carb one...there is a list in the book as well)
    +oatmeal (YUM!)
+couscous (ready in a flash and so yummy...there are tons of boxed packages in stores)
+brown rice and wild rice pilaf
+great grains mixes (have all sorts of whole grains in them...the one on the bill this week is brown rice, bulgher, wheat berries, and pecans with garlic...yummmmm)

Hope that gives you an idea! I love having a tuna melt on one slice of WW bread. That is fabulous!

    Enjoy, Pika!
