I screwed up with mayo...

  • ...but I still lost 5 lbs. I have been using...dun dun dun Miracle whip for the last 4 days in my egg and tuna. I don't know what came over me, I have both helmans and miracle whip and just pulled out the MW. It doens't seemed to have stalled me, granted I have only been on the plan for 6 days. And I don't have cravings.

So do you think I sabotaged my Phase 1? Should I go an extra week. I have lost 5 lbs in the first 3 days and nothing since then....TOM is coming btw. I feel better still and don't have any cravings. I wouldn't necessarily say I don't have hunger anymore because I do, could the miracle whip be why.

Can you even have regular mayo on Phase 1?

That is the end of it for me but it is the only way I can eat eggs and tuna.
  • Oops! I guess I have too! I haven't read the book cover to cover yet, I am skimming through.

What's the scoop on Mayo? Is Miracle Whip Fat Free OK? If not, what is the best to use? I love my tuna salad!
  • I don't know if it is ok, I hope someone answers that. However, I have an idea that the light kind of Miracle Whip is out because I finally looked at the label and the third ingredient was some type of sugar....not good. I am still not sure about real mayo. Eek. I love my tuna salad too, its the only kind and only way I can eat seafood.
  • AS I recall, the Doc says use real -- it's made with good fats and eggs. He says you can use low-fay mayo, but I don't bother -- it's not like we eat this stuff by the spoonful!!! It sure sounds like you're OK. The nice thing about the SB approach is that it allows for "goof-ups." I wouldn't worry, especially if you're not having cravings -- just press on with the "right stuff." We switched to Nayonaise, which is soy-based and marvelous!!!
  • Use the regular Hellmans. (although I use the light)
Don't fret over it. And if you feel you're able to do another week on Phase I, go for it! But you're doing really well so far.
  • I get a bit confused on these kind of questions, but if you look in the original book under the section on cheeseburgers, you'll find what Natter is saying about real Mayo. However, in recipes in the books, you'll find liberal use of low fat mayo. I use a bit of both in my tuna.

Welcome to the beach, Ozziesgirl! I hope that you can find a way to eat your tuna that you can enjoy! I wonder if someone can tell you what is in Miracle Whip that makes it taste the way it does...if it's some kind of vinegar or such, perhaps you can make your own? I enjoy my tuna with lots of chopped dill pickles a bit of pickle juice along with mayo. Cuts the "fishy" taste, which I hate. Maybe you could add chopped, roasted red peppers?

    Good luck!
  • Thank you everyone! Good to know I didn't completely blow it. Beachgal: that tuna recipe with the pickles sounds yummy. I usually just put cerely, green onion and miracle whip in mine, but pickles are my fav so that is definitely going in next!
  • Also if you like the taste of Miracle whip just add a little splenda to regular mayo and it comes pretty darn close to tasting the MW.
  • according to the lil book, miracle whip use should be limited. and it says dairy-free mayo is good. and have regular mayo over fat free and all that good stuff. so i guess a little light or reg hellman's.
