Hello! I took my first Metformin today and no nausea but problems at the other end of the chain.

A couple questions.

In your experience, if this is my only s/e so far, is this as bad as it will get or is there still potential for nausea as I continue to take it this week?

Also, how long will this last, all week or get progressively better (not that you can predict for me, but tell me how it was for you).

And did you ever try Immodium or other med for the s/e?

I'm 4 flights of stairs and a hall way away from the restroom--a 30-40 second walk.

As I was running this afternoon, my boss was calling for me and then chasing me down the hall. Very awkward!

It lasted for about a week for me. As the week went on, it happened less and less. Then I started taking it in the middle of my meals instead of the beginning and I no longer had the "other end" problem. I never did have the nausea. What you might want to do for now is take one at dinnertime when you are home, that way when the gastrointestional effects hit you're at your own home instead of the company bathroom. For the time you need to take it at work, maybe you could split the pill up. Like take ½ with breakfast, ½ with lunch, then a full pill at dinner. I would NOT take Immodium with the Metformin. There is a reason why your body is doing what it does and you wouldn't want that to get clogged up in there and have even more problems later. I did take some swigs of Pepto though that 1st week and that seemed to help the cramps.

I would try to give it a week and if you are still having problems, then I woukd suggest giving your doctor a call. Sometimes they will prescribe a different form of Glucophage, or lower the dosage that you are on now.

For me, I had nausea in the beginning--like the first 2 days, then the "other end" and it all stopped within a week.

Dr's have told me it can take up to a few weeks before the side effects go away. They've also told me to take Immodium.

Hang in there, the side effects should go away in time. Make sure you drink enough water too so you don't get dehydrated.
