Weight Scales at the Doctor's vs. Home Scales

  • GRRRRR! So, I go to the doctors yesterday and they weight me. IT WAS 7 POUNDS HEAVIER THAN MY SCALE SAYS AT HOME! I'm sure that since I had my clothes and shoes on, it accounted for a couple pounds, but DANGGIT! Doesn't that suck? I felt so bad after that. I almost felt like I haven't lost any weight. And, I realized that I weighed more than I thought when I first started in January, so that definitely makes me feel bad. I'm going to try to stay positive though. I have lost 17 pounds, which is better than nothing!

Does anyone have a really accurate home scale? If so, what kind and where can I find it?

I hope everyone has a great day!
  • I have the same problem. The dr's scale is always 5 pounds heavier so I whined to her about it. She said that most dr's office scales are not terribly accurate and that I should trust my home one.

    Works for me!
  • That's great news Star!
  • I was an office manager for 12 years at a doctors office and our scale was never accurate! They are on average 10 pounds over most scales. The reason that they are is because they do not have the scales calibrated. It needs to be done periodically but they don't want to bother spending the money I guess. My boss always said she never cared so much how much you weighed just how it has changed over time.
  • You guys have just made my day!!!

I show as 6-7 pounds heavier at the doctor too!

Atkins Chick - When I was on WW 5 years ago, I bough a Litium battery scale. At the time, they were the most accurate ones and the cool thing is that it weighs to the .5 pound and the battery NEVER Dies! I got mine at Wal-Mart for about $20-25. It is a Health-O-Meter
  • Karen and I have the same scale
  • Yup. I refused once to step on the scale at the doc office cuz of how much more it said I weighed---until the nurse said it's not accurate and they just like to have a record of it it changes drastically.
  • I went to the dr's today and it's still off. But you guys are right. They're far more concerned with changes. And since the last record thay had of me was at a little over 200 pounds, they were pretty dang pleased with me.
  • YUP! That is what my Dr said to me too! 40 pounds is still 40 pounds no matter what scale you put me on! He was thrilled! Just said to KEEP IT UP!
  • OKAY GIRLS !!

This should make you feel better !!

Doctors are to cheap to have their scales calibrated, they should do this every 6 months or at least 1 year but they don't so most likely their scales are very wrong. Go by what yours says and the next time you go to your doctor ask him/her when was the last time they had their scales calibrated (adjusted). Bet they will look at you like HUH??????????? DUH????????? cheep cheep squeek squeek !!

A good way to check your scale at home is put a 5 lb bag of sugar/flour on it, or some weights.

  • Jane, sorry I just read what you wrote !! YUP she's right !!

DUH DUH DUH I feel stupid
