  • For me it was a tip in Dr. Phils book. Determine realistically how much weight you want to lose. Figure two pounds a week and count out how many weeks that is going to take you. I went to my little purse calendar and did that. I figured that by the 4th of July weekend I should hit my goal weight. Then in my calendar I counted back each Saturday and wrote where my target should be on that day. So every Saturday morning I know where I should be and I write down where I am. That has been so helpful for me. I'm actually ahead of schedule because I had such a great take-off during my first week doing South Beach. So on the days or weeks that I feel that things are too slow, I can look at my calendar and say that I'm at least ahead of schedule and this is a healthy way to do this.

I finally hit the "50's" yesterday!!!!!!! It has been YEARS since I've been there! I also went to Wally World today and actually tried on pants. I also haven't done that for years. They had some cute pedal pushers and I zipped them up! I've always gone for the stretchy dark blah colors that don't have a shape or size. Not anymore! I just need to remember how this is feeling. Certainly it feels better than anything could possibly taste.

Anyway, just curious what you all do to stay, keep, get motivated.
  • My little blood pressure wrist cuff is my best motivator. I like seeing the lower numbers, like below 120 over 70 something. My bp started rising after I gained weight, and think that is a main cause. I really don't want to stroke out! But I find I must work at it for good health.
  • Bellydancing is my best motivator...I wanted to dance and not be out of breath halfway through the song, I wanted to look good in my costume, I wanted to gain the self confidence to dance in public - not just in class and I have managed to do all of that AND I have danced three times in public now

Still working on toning my arms and legs but now I have abs!
  • My pedometer was VERY motivating for me. I found some days I was only walking about 3 or 4 hundred steps, and I eventually worked it up to 10 000 a day.
Now, my motivator is my trainer. He's amazing. He's really kicking me into shape.
  • My best motivator is a black bikini that I don't quite have the confidence to wear yet.
  • Death! At 65 with high-ish BP and Type II diabetes and a family history of colon cancer...well, let's just say that overweight exacerbates those conditions.
  • Quote: Death!
  • The fact I'm 32 and was feeling more like 62 because I was so tired all the time. Just finally got fed up with feeling so lousy and having no energy to do anything.
  • Mine is that I want my sexual responses to spring back in to life. I have been so out of touch with that part of myself for the last couple of years. I want more action.
  • Quote: I want more action.
    Damn, you go girl!
  • I want to feel comfortable in my own skin again, it was so stretched out that my buttons were about to pop!
  • My best motivator I think is that I want my kids to have a "good looking mom!"
  • Just wanted to add,

RNMOM Thanks for adding that concept from Dr. Phil.
That sounds great! I am going to do my analysist now!

    Thanks
  • Mompen

  • My greatest motivator I just found this weekend. I had been doing really well, almost a month on the diet and I slipped and had two rolls with dinner with honey butter and some chocolate cake. I woke up the next day feeling horrible, hung over almost. I never realized how awful I felt all the time could have been because of how I ate.
I used to have stomach problems and they are practically gone now and I have energy. I am starting to feel like i'm supposed to - a 23 year old not an old lady with aches and pains.

Oh, plus being able to have great sex and feel attractive will be nice when i get there.
