Low-Carb Chocolates ??

  • Hey There!! I was just wondering if it was okay to eat the "Carbolite" or the new Russell Stover low-carb chocolates ?? I know they have sugar alcohols, but if you count them towards your 20 carbs a day, are they still okay to eat? I am fairly new at this way of eating and am still trying to get my feel of it all. Thanks so much for any help!!
  • If you are doing the Induction phase of Atkins the answer is no you cannot eat them. If you are doing a modified or other program the answer is maybe. There is a lot of controversy over the sugar alcohols right now. Some people say they stall them and others are having trouble with them causing cravings and still others have no problem at all with them.

If you are craving chocolate just whip some cream and add sf coffee syrup, they have chocolate along with many other flavors. This is really good and rich. Also if you are doing Induction only 2 to 3 tablespoons of whipped cream.

Check out the recipe forums as there are some really good ones to deal with a sweet tooth.

Good luck with this WOL and losing your unwanted pounds and gaining health.
  • Frankenfoods are a no-no on induction. Besides, didn't eating sweets get us in this weight situation in the first place? I've even stopped using sweetener in my coffee as even a fake sweet taste seems to get me thinking more!
  • Your not kidding Ruthie, the more I have the more I want, plus be careful w/Alcohol sugars, there's an article on the atkins thread telling all about it. Evil stuff lololol. It can also stop/stall weight loss.

I would suggest having it as a treat only, every now and then, like on days when you just can't take it anymore LOLOL. Its a bad habbit to stop once you start.

    Been there ! lol.

    Hugs and good luck.
  • There's a commercial around here about downed power lines but the same premise applies here: DO NOT TOUCH IT!!!

Once in a great while as an extra special treat, maybe.

On induction, absolutely not. Causing stalls aside, part of induction is breaking your dependancy on certain foods. That means getting over the sweet thing and learning to eat for the nutritional value of the food, not just for the comfort.

As a regular treat, not a good idea. Aside from the carbs counting, it does a major number on the digestive systems of most people.
