Artificial Sweetener - which is best

  • Does anyone know which artificial sweetener is the best - carb wise. I use a lot of sweet-n-low in my coffee (2 cups per day - 7 sweet-n-lows per coffee) and am wondering if I should be concerned. I don't want to sabotage all my hard efforts by just using the wrong sweetener.
  • Most of the locarbers I've read on here and other boards I'm on use Splenda---including me!
  • I think splenda is the best also...it tastes so much more like sugar and you dont have to use as much
  • Splenda or stevia. Stevia is not approved by the FDA but you can get it at natural food stores. They don't disapprove - just have not ranked it yet.
  • What if you don't like ANY of them?
So here's my delimma...I'm nervous about how limited my diet's going to be, because I absolutely cannot stand any of the artificial sweeteners. I was so excited when Splenda came out, because everyone insisted it tasted like sugar, so I made a big dessert with it, and ugh, it tasted like it had been made with aspertame or nutra sweet. Then my mom found Stevia and insisted I would love it. Again, I was quite excited, and I used it in something (can't remember what), and it tasted just as chemical-ly as the rest. Mom thinks I'm faking it and has tried to trick me several times (telling me something's made w/ sugar), but it never worked. Boy, do I wish it had!

Is anyone else in this boat? If so, how do you handle it? A good number of the SBD-friendly recipes I'm finding rely heavily on Splenda.

    TIA!
  • Don't know what to say...I am that way with salt substitutes (BLECH!!!) so I understand. You will probably have to skip the desserts and do other snacks. If you are craving sweets, sometimes just putting cinnamon in things will sweeten it up a bit.
