NS-RED (Nocturnal Sleep Related Eating Disorder)

  • Hi all,

Anyone familiar with NS-RED? Bound to frustrate any diet / exercise plan.

Once you read description, you'll know straightaway if this is you.

On a hopeful note, checking into sleep clinic in early Feb. to start getting some answers. I suspect I have had this for 20 years or so (1/2 my life).

    Thanks,
    Eric
  • Good luck at the sleep clinic! What a frustrating disorder. Let us know how it goes in February.
  • Oh, Eric... I'd never heard of that. Best of luck to you... let us know how you're doing.
  • Eric - I remember seeing a program about it...they actually had night vision cameras installed in these people's houses.

When did you learn you were a sufferer? How did you figure it out?
  • Jennelle,

After a very concerted effort over Summer and Fall that went nowhere despite great changes in diet and a moderate degree of exercise, I figured something greater than the sum of my efforts was having its way with me and that I ought to find out what it is.

It took a lot of searches at Google to get something that made sense to me.

Now, my case is not as bad as some of the ones discussed in the literature. I never bring food back to bed or eat super bizarre combinations. Also, I usally recall it but sometimes I don't.

I get up 2-3 hours after falling asleep and wonder how it is I can make it down the stairs without injury, accomplish this task and go back to bed. Apparently, parts of the brain responsible for walking / navigating are in full operation while other parts are asleep.

Once I read the description, I said "there is enough here to say, that's me."
