Vegetarian

  • I'm considering trying the South Beach Diet, but am hesitant because I'm a vegetarian. However, I do eat eggs and, sometimes, cheese (I'm lactose-intolerant, but "cheat" on occasion). Do you think this is plan is workable for me?

Some background: I also have a sensitivity/allergy to wheat, which flared up, so I haven't had limited baked goods (my weakness) for a while. Since I've become vigilant about avoiding wheat, I've lost about 15 pounds, which is a little more than 5% of my total weight, even though I've stupidly continued to eat candy. (My doctor has diagnosed "Syndrom X," and I take multiple medications for it; I also take medication for depression.)

Sorry for being so long. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

  • Welcome, Selene!
  • Yes, you can do this! It sounds like all you have to cut out are simple carbs like sugar, potatoes, white rice and corn. You can find replacments for all of them, however! You can eat some dried beans and legumes on Phase 1, and then more in Phase 2. Eggs, salads, veggies, beans, some low sugar fruit - you should do fine!

Good recipe keywords to look for will be low glycemic vegetarian.
