New here, need encouragement

  • Hi everybody,
    I am new to this board but I must say from what I have read I have come to the right place for support and encouragement. I am 43 yrs old and almost 300 lbs, recent widow and mom of a super 13 yr old boy. I am finally going to get myself on track, time to think of myself for a change, and I need encouragement. I am a type 2 diabetic also, so I have all these food dos and don'ts, diets and exchanges running around in my head and I am feeling really overwhelmed. My plan of attack is exercise, eat lower carb, exercise and learn all I can about food to make the best choices I can. Did I mention exercise?? I am a secretary and sit most all day and I am feeling it---I need to move !!!

    You all have had such wonderful success, Iwonder if you would tell me a little bit about how you have achieved your success. I want to be able to sign off with my current weight 10, 20 30 lbs or more, less than my highest weight too!!

  • To answer your last question-

    At the top of this page you see a button that says User CP, click on that. Then go to User Options (I think that's what it's called), then at the bottom it says something about the Avatar and there's a button that says More Info. Click on that and it will give you your choice of pictures, or you can upload one of you.

    Welcome! I'm so glad you've joined us. I think the key is just finding what works for you. Each of us has struggled with finding the right plan that works for us.

    Starting an exercise plan will also help tremendously. It's made all the difference for me. Try different things until you find something that you like.

    Also, don't be too hard on yourself when you slip up or don't have a day that's 100% on plan. We all have off days, but the key is to get right back on track.

    You'll find lots of great info here and I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Post often!

    A thousand welcomes to you!. You have definately come to the right place for support, advice , and motivation - it always helps me to stay on track.

    Your plans sound great - you are right about the exercise, it will really make a difference to your weight loss, and also your fitness levels. Just build it up gradually - and find something that you enjoy and can do regularly, such as walking.

    There are lots of different challenge and support groups which you can find on the support page - I'd recommend joining one of them as you get alot of individual support and it also helps you to be accountable. I belong to the 'time for serious fun' group, which is a lovely bunch of ladies - check us out!

    The picture below peoples names is called an 'avatar' - 3fc provide some for you to choose from - I think you get it from your 'user control panel' , (the bit where you make up your profile). There is a section that says 'choose avatar' I think - I'm not explaining it very well, I'm sure someone else will do a better job!
