I conquered "the Tower" in less than an hour

44 minutes and 38 seconds to be exact. Spent a very interesting morning climbing the 180 storeys of the CN Tower - it was quite an experience and one I only dreamed I could partake in (in May of 2002 I went to the Tower for a buffet dinner and was winded walking across the "Skywalk" to the elevator...)

It wasn't easy, but so many volunteers were there to urge us on, saying "you're doing great!!", "wow, look at you!!", "you're half-way there!!" and "only 10 more to go!!". I don't think I could have finished it without all those great volunteers.

I could say I did it because of my charitable heart (and I did raise quite a bit of money, but I think a lot of people pledged me because they didn't think I could do it and they wouldn't have to pay up), but to be truthful I did it for me. I see that darn Tower on my way to work every day and it became one of my goals and maybe it's not a big deal to a lot of people but I feel proud of myself right now and I really, really like that feeling!

I admit that at about the half-way point I was cursing Mothrgoos68 for telling me she had no doubt I could do it, and at about 120 storeys I recalled jiffypop telling me to watch my knees (which wasn't difficult seeing as they felt like they were the size of beach balls at that point), but the closer I got to the top and the more I could hear the cheering at the very top, the more I KNEW I'd do it.

Okay, I know I won't be able to walk tomorrow, and right now my left ankle is sore, my calves feel like they're on fire and I'm having trouble bending my knees, but you know what? I FEEL GREAT!!

Funny, when they asked what size t-shirt I wanted (they write your time on the back) I automatically said "extra-large". Next year I'll get a smaller shirt (and will have a better time on the back too)
  • Jill,

You are amazing and I am so proud of you!!!!! I can't even imagine making a climb like that. Stairs are really tough, and you did 180 storeys!!! You rock!!

Wow, your time was really good too! How did your team as a whole do?

There's nothing wrong with doing it for you, the charity still benefited and now you get to go back to all the non-believers and show them that you proved them wrong. They will know not to doubt you again.

I am really proud of you and you should be really proud of yourself. This is a really amazing accomplishment!

I think that Extra Large shirt will have to be a nightshirt for you!
  • Wow! Way to go! You did it!!!

In the end, all the pain is worth it, because YOU finished what you set out to do, and it makes you feel WONDERFUL!

    You go girl!!

  • Way to go Jillegal! You are AWSOME!
You set a goal, worked towards it, and you accomplished it. This IS a big deal. Go on and be proud, you deserve it! You are a strong, determined woman and you can do anything you set your mind to. WOW, just think of the possibilities...

  • WOW!!! What an inspiration to us all!! I've been feeling proud 'cause I can do one flight of stairs now without too much trouble. I get winded at two. I can't imagine doing the whole Tower!!

    You go, girl!!

(Oh, wait... you already went... hmmm... )

    You WENT, girl!!!

    /grin
  • Thanks for all your kind words guys, I really appreciate it and I'm glad I can share these kind of things with you!

I'm not sure how my team did overall mthrgoos68 because we left at staggered times (the event started at 6:30 a.m. and was still going on when I left a couple of hours later). I know one of our lawyers was way up there on the leader board and I'm just glad I didn't let my team down - in other words, I wasn't the last team member to make it to the top (okay, I WAS the second last, but I was also the second oldest - besides me and a 50ish woman all the others were "kids" in their 20s or 30s).

It wasn't until we took the elevator (which is on the outside of the Tower) back down that I fully appreciated how high up we were - coming down was like being on an airplane!

Well, back to e-mailing certain people to tell them to have their wallets ready and then I'm having a nap (followed by a bath in epsom salts)

Thanks again for being here to share in this with me.
  • good effort
