I am thinking of getting one Any suggestions? Are they the same thing? Anything I should watch out for? Anyone have specific brands, models etc...they prefer. I was looking at reviews online and my head started spinning.

Relax! They are the same thing. And expensive ones are no better than the el cheapos!

Try to get one with a removable pot - it sure makes washing up easier. I have a big one which holds a large chicken and a smaller one for stews and small boiled hams.

Sflake, you might want to try and find a cookbook...there are somethings about crockpot cooking that differ from "regular" cooking...like meat cooks faster than veggies or that you don't need much liquid! There isn't much better than coming home (or in my case waking up) to a nice pot of stew or a pot roast!

Well, it cooks for hours so it's guaranteed to be well done. There is not always a gravy - you can cook a chicken in one. Some liquid is there and could be used for a gravy, I guess.
I use mine mainly for stews, pot roasts and soup although there is a great spucy Ethiopian Chicken Recipe in Low CArb that is a favourite. (Not for wusses and wimps!)

I have even done meatloaf in my crockpot! And back when I ate potatoes, I would stick some in the pot to keep the meatloaf company!

Do a search for crockpot recipes, or check out ALLRECIPES.COM and you'll probably learn more than you ever wanted to know about crockpot cooking!

Tippy, that is too funny! Reminds me of the notice in the USAF base newsletter that was an advert for a "Cardio Dickboxing Class!" Ooops...some typos are just too good!

I LOVE to walk in the house after a long day of work and smell supper already cooking. One day I said, "Oh, somebody's already got supper going!" then I realized it was me... I'd started the crockpot that morning. Well "sometimers" gives us all little surprises sometimes!
I love to cook green beens in the crockpot with bullion and onion flakes and just a dsh of sugar substitute. Gives it that Southern cooked all day taste from basic canned green beans.
Just about any baked chicken recipe can be done in the crockpot. Put an oven bag in there as a liner first for quick clean up. Chilli, stews. I even baked a chocolate cake in there this summer but I guess that's out for now.
