Reduce your risk of dementia with the Mediterranean Diet...

  • In the 8/4/2025 issue of Woman's World magazine, there is an article entitled "Reduce your risk of dementia".. the findings are from research done by Judith Lynn Heidebrink, MD, a neurologist at University of Michigan (https://www.uofmhealth.org/profile/6...-heidebrink-md ).. she cites several different simple changes in lifestyle that are proven to protect your brain... like, doing puzzles & playing games; getting more exercise; controlling your blood pressure; staying social... but the one that will interest folks on this forum, Eat more plant-based foods... here's what it says:

That's why she recommends eating plans like the Mediterranean diet, which emphasizes fruits and vegetables, whole grains, plant-based oils and nuts and limits red meat, sweets and processed foods.     So, even though factors like aging & genetics are out of your control, you can make some changes that could make a difference.

I’ve been slowly shifting toward a more Mediterranean-style diet over the past year (more veggies, olive oil, fish instead of red meat), and I’ve noticed better energy and focus. It’s encouraging to know it could also help protect the brain long term. Small changes really do add up!
