Anyone else craving soup with this cooler weather?

  • I live in Iowa where the weather here has turned cooler. I've been craving soup all week! Tomorrow I'm making chili and will be making a couple of substitutions to keep it SBD friendly. I'm planning on making mine with lean ground turkey breast, kidney beans, tomatoes, tomato juice, green peppers, onions and tons of spices! I like my chili hot and spicy. Anyone else making soup this weekend?
  • I am always making soup! My DH claims it's how I clean out the fridge!

We had clam chowder for lunch today - made with cubed zucchini instead of potatoes and bits of boiled ham instead of real bacon. I frequently make a sort of Chinese soup with chicken, assorted veggies and "noodes" made of egg white.

Lentil soup is another favourite as is black bean - the spicier the better!

How about posting your recipe in the Recipe Section?
  • Lentil and black bean soup sound good too. I'll have to look in the recipe section to check out the soups. I don't really have a recipe for my chili I just throw meat, beans, tomatoes and spices together and taste until it's spicy enough for me. If it turns out good tomorrow, I'll try to post the recipe.
  • I ususally make a big pot of vegetable soup to hold me for the week. I took the WW soup recipe and made a few changes and have come to really enjoy it. I have shared it with coworkers and received great compliments. I usually have a little when hunger strikes and it's not meal time. It tastes great and tides me over.
  • I made a huge pot of chili this week. I made it with lean ground beef, cooked, drained and rinsed with hot water. I add lots of onions, sweet peppers and celery along with lots of beans. Add some tomato juice and lots of spices and it's wonderful.

    Oh, but the gas!
  • ah, beans beans the magical fruit, the more you eat the more you toot! (I just had to say that)! Just don't get near !!!
  • You guys crack me up!

Personally, I am sick to death of soup! I have had soup, soup, and more soup since I got this orthodontic appliance! DH loves to make soup, and has been trying to mix it up a bit for me, so it really isn't too bad. Tomorrow is 15 bean soup...yummy!

Another reason to be sick of soup....I just cut out about 1000 Campbell's labels for school....some were from 1989! Seriously!

Have a great day and enjoy your comfortable, cozy pot of soup!
  • Wow!! We must be able to read each other's minds now.

It turned cold here in Indiana today, also, so DH asked me to

make some Chili. I made a big pot which we ate some of tonight

and will eat more of tomorrow. We like ours hot and spicy, too.

I used black beans and pintos in ours, and added onions ,

garlic, 96 percent lean ground beef (drained well) , diced

tomatoes, tomato sauce, and lots of chili pepper and spices. It

really hit the spot on a chilly day!

  • Was hankering for soup and toasted cheese sandwiches.

So I made Egg drop soup SB friendly.

    Before that I made chili.

There is nothing better than chili on a cool day...unless it is a nice fire....well, in the fireplace that is heehee!!

  • ok ladies!!! It's cooler here too! I need recipies to make all the yummy soups you're refering to and they are not in the recipie section either! Please get your recipies on soon. I'm hungry!

    Thanks!!!!
  • What a coincidence -- I made soup just this morning. I don't go by a recipe, I just toss in whatever I have. Today it was chicken breast, basil, parsley, salt, pepper, broccoli, green peas, great northern beans, and olive oil. I put a little too much pepper in, so I needed to have a SF popsicle afterward, but that wasn't so bad! And Frannymae, I totally feel your pain. I had my jaw wired shut for 6 weeks, and by the end of that time I was fed up with Ensure, shakes, and soup. We ended up getting pretty creative, I went to a birthday party at a pizza parlor and asked them if they could put a burrito in a blender with extra sauce. They did it, and I ate it out of a bowl through a straw! Here's hoping you can chew soon. :-D
