To low carb or???? HELP!

  • Got a question……

So, just found out there’s LAZY KETO, KETO, LOW CARB. Of course know there’s ATKINS and S. BEACH! OMG! What is the difference between these diets? Granted, limited carbs but what would be the most effective and easiest to stick with? I will be going on a short weekend trip in a couple weeks and want to get serious after my trip and thought about either trying a low carb diet OR following a diet roughly around 1800 calories watching macros and getting the right amount of protein, carbs and fat in each meal. I honestly find it very hard to do as I don't care about spending hours meal prepping. I want something I can follow and the meals simple and don't require a lot of cooking either. I know...I WANT IT ALL, RIGHT?! LOL

I am at a crossroads as to which one to choose. Like so many of you, been there done that with diets and I am sick of nothing working. I have been told I don’t eat enough to lose and then oGot a question……

I am at a crossroads as to which one to choose. Like so many of you, been there done that with diets and I am sick of nothing working. I have been told I don’t eat enough to lose and then on the other hand, to eat every 2 hours, get my good carbs in, watch macros, blah blah blah. PLUS, I see so many folks going low carb and losing and wondering if this is just another fad. I have been fighting this fight and FAT for YEARS and I am so overwhelmed at all the information out there, just at a crossroads. I am 50, thyroid is normal (had it checked) and I drink a ton of water plus…not liking veggies much isn't a big help. I love protein so thinking it would be the best option is a low carb effort but then I am shamed for thinking this way and limiting the carbs like oatmeal and sweet potatoes for example…the good carbs. HELP! I want to lose about 12 pounds and now being in MENOPAUSE……the challenge is definitely HARDER and clothes just don't fit anymore..body composition is different and I am not going down without a fight! LOL

I don't understand. Who shames you? Based on what?

Anything you stick to will work, provided it's reasonably healthy. The second you stop eating whatever way you've been eating, you'll regain the weight. That doesn't mean the diet failed. Have you tried cutting sugar and flour? No one needs those carbs or can afford them except possibly elite professional athletes.
  • Helpful, thanks!
  • I think the biggest issue with any low carb diet is really sticking to low carb. Getting off the sugar and sweetener bandwagon.
There are lots of "keto" and "paleo" and "Atkins" products out that, especially treats and dessert, that purport that you can eat that food and stay low carb, and have no consequences of eating it, and its just not so.
You might be able to manage it during maintenance phase, especially if you keep it to occasional treats, but not on a regular basis, which is what people want.
We don't really WANT to be on this or any weight loss plan. We resist.
So while I am doing Keto right now, and supportive, and know it works best for me, (combined with IF) its still very hard, and I know I really have to avoid the treats.
I am totally craving the sugars/sweets right now.
The thing that helped me the most, was a health crisis that lead me to find out I had celiac disease. By cutting out all the baked goods (I avoid the gluten free substitutes) I was able to stick to low carb and lost 40 pounds. It mostly stayed off until Covid19 and I have gained back about 8 pounds, which I am now working to get rid of, and lose further weight on my doc's advice.
  • Hey I'm Jossy! I can identify with You as I'm on the Keto program too! I find it'svery hard to avoid the treats especially with the Holidays and Covid now. But, we'll get through it!
