Adjusting to low calorie diet

  • Hi all today is day 5 of me counting calories and everyday I've had migraines and nausea with upset stomach. Is this just my body adjusting to new diet? I have been taking Motrin but it's really frustrating.
  • I didn't have symptoms like that when I first started--until I got the flu. I'm not saying that I'm the example to be measured against, but if your symptoms are really that bad, I'd go see a doctor. Even if you're not sick, he will be able to give you advice on how much/what you should/shouldn't be eating for your body to be happy. If you're in pain, something's wrong, not right (usually).
  • Perhaps symptoms of low carbs?
  • How low are you restricting (as in, are you eating enough)? Are you still eating fruits/vegetables/protein? Did you suddenly go low-carb or introduce new foods into your diet that maybe you're allergic to? Migraines and nausea seem really extreme for simple calorie counting... if it doesn't stop, yeah, I'd go see someone.
  • migraines do occur when starting a low calorie diet
migraines and nausea are extremely common when starting low calorie diets, they are also the reason most people give up on their diet. motrin on an empty stomach is not a good idea and can make the nausea worse. the first few days are usually the worst but if you can get through it the migraines should go away after a few days. consult your physician or re evaluate your diet if they continue.
  • I had what you describe when I went low carb. Upping my potassium and sodium fixed it for me but like others have said, definitely see a doctor to rule out actually being ill!
