E + R = O

  • I'm taking a little break from cleaning and thought I'd share this with you. It's not a revelation or a new concept, but I think it's something that we all need to be reminded of periodically (I know I do).

As I'm cleaning today, I turned off the TV and radio, and have been listening to a set of audio tapes that I have called "Self-Esteem and Peak Performance" by Jack Canfield (one of the ME things I'm doing this weekend).

I think this is the kick in the butt that I needed to help me get back on track!!!

    Something that he teaches is E + R = O. Event + your Response = Outcome

You are in control of what you do and how you feel. Someone else can not make you feel sad, angry, hurt, upset, or happy, excited, joyful. You make that happen by the way you respond to events or people. And no one or nothing else makes you gain weight or lose weight. You do that by chosing to eat or chosing not to eat something. You are in control of you!

It's all about choices and reactions/responses. And I chose to get back on track with my new healthy WOL, to regain control over my portion sizes, and to move once again towards a healthier thinner me! And I'm doing it for me, because I deserve it!!!
  • Twodog, my DH (the social worker ) taught me that years ago, and it's one of the best lessons I've ever learned. Thank you for the reminder.
  • I need to remember that when I drive...every little thing annoys me.
  • That is a great way of framing accountability and control. We know these things, but how they get framed can sometimes make all the difference!!

    ..Love it!! -rb
  • I like that.

    "I DESERVE IT!"

    Good for all of us.

  • Twodog......All I can say is, "Wow!"
What a wonderful reminder for all of us I need to copy this where it will remind me each day .
Thanks for the beautiful thoughts on Control!
    I love it!!!
  • Thanks for that. It was just what I needed, too!
  • 2Dog-That is a WONDERFUL/HELPFUL thing to remember, THANKS!!!!! and having E + R = O will be easier to remember too!!! I think I'm going to use that with my 13 year old too. He is anxious, and quick memorable self esteem boosts really seem to help him out!!! (ME TOO!!!!)
  • 2dog-great way to think! I like it a LOT! Thanks for sharing!
  • 2dog thanks. Just what I needed to read after a rough day. Julie
  • I really just wanted to "bump" this up to the top of the thread...a timely reminder that WE are in control of OUR lives!
  • Bumping this back to the top for Snoozin and other newbies who may wonder what E+R=O is all about.
  • Thank you 2dog, that's a good way to remember we truly are in control of our lives. Thanks for the great explanation.
  • Thanks, twodog. Bringing it back up was very timely for me too!
  • This was new to me and I really need it now and in many ways! thanks so much for sharing! It's strange to think that if I am not in charge...no one is!!! I am the only me I have!!!
