  • Hi Suze!

Congratulations on your engagement and upcoming wedding!!! I think you can lose 5 stone, which is 70lbs in 9 months. It is a pretty aggressive goal, but you can at least get really close to it. I have lost 42 pounds since July which is about 4 months, so that works out to about 10 pounds a month which is a reasonable amount to lose safely. I have done it by counting calories using the app on my phone My Fitness Pal and walking more. I started at 1,500 calories when I at first as I weighed 225lbs and I wanted to get used to that amount and have somewhere to drop my calories as I lost more weight. I lowered the amount from 1,500 to 1,200 calories slowly over a couple of months and I have been consistently losing weight each month.

Joining a gym is a great idea and exercise is really great for improving you overall health and fitness. I didn't join a gym, but I do walk a couple of miles a day as I take the subway to and from work now so that has been helping with toning up my legs and butt.

My advice is to figure out how many calories you are eating and cut it down by 500-1,000 calories per day. So if you currently eat 2,000-3,000 calories, cut it down to 1,600-1,800 calories/day. Exercise is great for your health and fitness, but you lose weight by lowering your calories. It is very hard to burn 400-500 calories a day exercising, and really easy to overestimate what you burn so focus on your diet to lose the most weight.

    Best of luck to you!
  • Congratulations!

I am kind of in the same boat. I have had an AMAZING time, at least for the first 30 pounds, with a ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting. I suspect the effect was mostly due to the ketogenic diet, though. It's a big change, but those thirty pounds were all lost in the first month and a half (after that weight loss has been much slower). For fast weight loss, it might be worth a shot.
