low carb diet leads to increased energy and eliminates depression

  • For years I have struggled with depression and anxiety. I am on week 2 of a low carb diet. So far, my depression is completely gone and I have the energy that I used to have. I am the me that I remember from my teen years. Is this normal? Will this continue as I add a few more carbs on the next step of the metabolism miracle diet?
  • Yes, it is normal.

In some people high carb diets induce a "chronic fatigue" syndrome and some even get to depression. Seems like humans were not "designed" to follow a high carb and low fat approach, but the opposite.
  • I know this is an older post but wanted to comment for anyone else looking into this. I was depressed for as long as I can remember (early teenage years). Five years ago I had a couple of Psych's tell me I would likely need to be medicated (anti-depressants) for the rest of my life.

I decided I wanted to try for baby #2 two years ago. I started eating low carb/high protein. Stopped taking the anti-depressant and mood stabilizer. Haven't had any mood swings or depression since. Fingers crossed this continues, but so far two years in and I am still ok .
