I was just wondering if anyone else had any problems either with gaining weight on the depo shot, or has had trouble losing weight while on it? I have been on it for several years now and can't help but wonder if some of my weight gain has been because of it and if it's slowing down the process of losing it. I have a couple of weeks to decide whether or not to get another injection, any suggestions? Thanks!

I had similar experience on Depo, and on the pill as well, it increased my appetite measureably. Off both of them now and doing tons better.

Hey Jamie- I had gained all my weight on another form of hormone therapy. Depo definitely made it more difficult to lose, because it caused me some fluid retention. It did not, cause me to gain weight. I have been on it for about 7 years and love it. I take it for the management of endometriosis and it has helped me to live a NORMAL life. I did find that with diet and exercise I have been able to keep weight off, even with the Depo. I wish you the best-Ashley

I have been on the pill (a generic version of Triphasil) for a year and a half, and hadn't ever *seriously* tried to lose weight until 2 months ago....and haven't had a problem! I've lost 21 pounds and it's gone really smoothly. So, I don't feel my birth control has had a negative effect on my weight loss! Our bodies are all different, though.

Thanks for all of your input, this is going to be a tough decision. Maybe I need to try another cycle and just really keep tabs on my progress and see how things go cause it's just too dang convienant for me right now.

I read a ton of horror stories about gaining or not being able to lose weight with the Depo shot, and the nurse told me I may gain up to 10 lbs with it. However, I am pleased to announce that I had my first Depo shot in July, at which time I weighed 167 lbs. I am now down to 153 lbs and still losing!

I was 125 lbs three years ago when I went on Depo. I gained about 2-3 lbs a week until I weighed 165 lbs, as documented by my doctors. I had my thyroid tested along with other blood work and nothing wrong was found. I went off depo, was on nothing for about 18 months then went back on the pill only and am now 135 lbs.

Depo also made me seriouly deperessed as well.
