Major Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit - January 1, 2016!

  • Here we go! New year! New month! New day to take more steps to a healthier body!

Had a great NY's Eve at Joanne's party and even managed to stay up until midnight. Not sure what today will bring but I plan to stay home this morning and do a few things before going off to the Mayor's levee this afternoon.

Alas! I stepped on the scale this morning and realized I've GAINED 4.4 pounds this year. Gotta get really serious ... which reminds me that I've not set up a January Target thread.

    Away we go!
  • Happy new year! Time sure does fly. I'm starting 2016 above my red line thanks to holiday excess I guess I need to buckle down to PH1 for a bit to get back on track.

I'm working out today with my mom and then I take DS to the airport this afternoon. Then I'll clean house. Amazing how much a mess it is with him around. I counted 4 drinking, glasses just used for water, on the kitchen table this morning.

Here's to a wonderful new year for all.
  • Good morning, chicks, and Happy New Year!!!

Very quiet NYE at my house, and no, I did not stay awake until midnight. DS1 left yesterday and DS2 will be off in the next few days. I will have him help me take a few boxes of decorations to the attic before he leaves but the tree and white lights will stay up at least another week. As DH says, tis the dark season and the extra lights are so cheerful!

Karen, I hear you on those extra dishes. Having 1 less person last night made a noticeable difference!

Ruth, enjoy the day and the event at the Mayor's this afternoon. Looks like winter has come to stay.

I need some coffee, anyone else?
  • I'll leave the tree up until the 6th and the outside lights will stay lit until mid-month to celebrate my birthday and brighten the winter nights. I'm with your DH and may even leave them lit until Valentine's Day. The scrooge across the street doesn't put out lights and the wee house beside me in still not sold so ...
  • Beth I'll take some thank you. I had no choice but to stay I past midnight lol. Uneventful NYE by work standards which is fine by me. I rolled in at 4:30 and now I'm here My tree and decorations will come down tomorrow if I am motivated. It is cheerful with the lights on.

Karen it's amazing boys can make messes at any age lol.

Ruth glad you enjoyed NYE. Have fun with the mayor later.

Today is another day of work. I think I may go in early as not to lose motivation. My boss dumped some projects on me that I really need to get completed. I wore my gun belt for 12 hours yesterday. Today my hips are feeling it! I have been really good with my nutrition compared to last month. I am only 1 pound above my last year's weight and 3 over goal. Hopefully at the end of the month I will be under goal.

    Happy New Year!
  • Karen - what is it with kids and glasses?!? (and it last until their 20's?!?) We are going through all...I'd guess 15 or so glasses nearly every day on break. They drink milk like crazy, and a new glass every time. Ugh!

Beth - I love having my Christmas tree lights on when I come down in the morning (they're on a timer). I'm hoping DH will leave the ones outside up for a month or two, it's cheery when it's dark so early and if it ever snows here!

Ruth - you made it til midnight?!? You crazy girl! I didn't! Do you get a nap today to make up for it?

I made it til 10:30! I had no interest in staying up that late anyways. Today is straighten up, figure out some meals, and DS has a friend coming over tonight for a sleepover. I was going to make Hoppin John (I need all the luck I can get!), but that might be cruel to serve to a young guest. My kids LOVE it though, maybe he would?! (and then again, maybe I'll make that for us and pizza for kids....)

My weight made its little jump (mine will be steady, then literally in a couple days will jump 4 lbs, WTH!?), I guess I need to start watching what I'm eating. Bummer.
  • Jennifer - you came home at 4:30 and you're awake?!?! Ca-razy. I was relieved to wake up this morning and see no headlines on attacks. Those extremists are crazy and ruthless.
  • HAPPY NEW YEAR

We had a very quiet evening. Skipped the new year celebration at a friend's who always celebrated quebecois style.
Having dinner with family tonight and that's it for holiday celebrations.
we always leave our outdoor lights till feb.1 when its dhs birthday. Christmas tree comes down after orthodox christmas on january 7th.
have a relaxing day today and you can make your dreams come true.
    take care
    Sophie
  • We only have white lights outside this year and will leave them lit most of January. Inside, I will leave up the white lights/fake greens until Valentine's Day, which usually is also close to Ash Wednesday. The tree will come down next weekend if I have the time. By mid-February the days are noticeably longer and I feel like we are out of the "dark season".

Jennifer, glad your night was uneventful. I was thinking of you on the job. Did DS make any decisions about school vs. work?

Sophie, what does a quebecois New Year's celebration entail??

Tammy, I only have 2 boys, but at one point I worked very hard to hammer home the point that you could use a glass more than once!! I also color-coded them (one red, one blue) for everything I could: toothbrushes, bathroom cup, backpacks, combs, etc etc. I still use that system sometimes.
  • Happy New Year!

I'm headed down to Denver for my noon CODA meeting with a stop at JoAnnFab. After trying for weeks to find a new nightshirt I've decided it's easier just to make what I want. I've got my chores accomplished and a dining room table just waiting for a project. I might get back later but if I don't head out soon I will miss the fabric store.

    Have a great day everyone!
  • HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We had a very quiet night here last night, ordered Chinese take-out and settled in to watch The Odd Couple marathon, but found out it didn't start until midnight, LOL! So I read my book and Jake watched a Lord of the Rings thingy, and we were both in bed by 10.

I went to the early Mass and Novena this morning, then came home and took down the tree while Jake took down the outside lights and wreaths. Everything is all put away and the house freshly dusted and vacuumed, and now I can sit and put my feet up for a while til dinnertime. We usually have sauerkraut and black-eyed peas on the menu, but neither of us were in the mood for it this year, so I'm making Tunbon instead, which is a northern Italian lasagna-like casserole. It's made with Jarlsberg cheese, mushrooms, and usually a bechamel sauce, although I'm going to do a tomato sauce. Ruth, you've had this before, last year while we were in Cape May. Do you remember? I know you liked it a lot.
  • I am having a completely lazy day with the Doggage and a stack of New Yorker magazines. Now I am going to gussy up and go to the Mayor's levee. Such and old custom and only in Canada and great Britain. Info here

Linda, I DO remember Tunbon although I had forgotten the name. Unfortunately I don't have any Jarlesberg or fresh mushrooms but am planning a mixed seafood pasta sauce for dinner tonight since I found a bag of assorted sea critters in the freezer. Not sure what else I'll throw into the mixture but ... maybe fennel. red pepper cubes and white wine? My only NY resolution is to eat more seafood and cut back on red meat.
  • Afternoon all and happy new year!

I've missed posting here and as I struggle to get back on the Ph1 wagon tomorrow after 3 weeks off the beach, I will post some more!

In total, 53 pounds lost this year since Jan 4. Looking forward to catching up!
  • Happy 2016
We had a quiet evening. DH worked today, so we were in bed by 10. We read our Gratitude Jar notes, ate some yummy (and surprisingly healthy) goodies, and drank some bubbly stuff. I found a good recipe for a PH1 legal Buffalo Chicken Dip if anyone wants it. It was delicious with celery sticks
Today's dinner was strictly P2, but not of the charts. That's the build-up to admitting I am up 5 lbs since 12/1 We are heading to DD's tomorrow overnight to babysit the wonder kid. Once we are home Sunday we are waving goodbye to cheese, grains, sugar, and goodies for awhile. We both need to drop a few.

Ruth - I always leave our decorations up until 1/6 at least. Last year I think the tree made it to the end of January. We cut it ourselves, so I will leave it until it starts dropping needles when I walk by. (sorry Jenn)

Karen - Congratulations on the New Year's Day workout!

Beth - I need coffee, but it's probably too late. I rang in the new year with insomnia. Yuck

Jennifer - Hope you got a little rest today.

Tammy - We have a little snow and it is sticking around. I thought it would melt, but it's just note getting warm enough. It's not enough to do anything with, but it's there.

Sophie - Hope you had a relaxing day.

Debbie - Was it a successful fabric store trip?

Linda - I made a huge veggie lasagna for dinner. We didn't even need a side dish there are so many veggies in it. It has a grilled eggplant layer, a roasted pepper layer, and the ricotta is mixed wth a whole package of chopped spinach, and a jar of shredded zucchini (that's a lot of zucchini).
Half of it will go in the freezer for a treat in February. I have to look up your recipe. It sounds delicious.

hi Jenn - Wow, great work!

I made lemon panna cotta for dessert. I think we will watch a movie and relax tonight.
