Healthy eating on a budget

  • My husband and I both have a lot of weight to lose. We know how to eat health,y, but need to do it on a budget. We have set about $300-$400/month for food. Does anyone have a really specific diet plan (mostly very clean eating) that will be in this price range? We both work, are incredibly busy and have 2 children. I could go and figure out every dime and calorie, but I'm hoping for a meal plan that is ready.
  • Stock up on canned tuna (and/or a whole chicken roasted), eggs, dried beans and rice, and cost-effective fresh and frozen veg&fruit.

-Rolled oats with frozen berries and peanut butter, and an egg for breakfast
-Salad and tuna/chicken, with a piece of fruit for lunch
-Beans, rice, and 2-3 veg for supper (chicken broth from the carcass is great for cooking rice)

Vary sauces/seasonings accordingly, and there's your meal plan.
  • I buy lots of frozen veggies and fruit. Lots. Frozen mixed veggies mixed with egg whites and a bit of chicken or frozen fish (shrimp or tilapia is pretty cheap at Costco or Sam's Club) and is a very healthy and inexpensive meal option.
