Is half your weight in oz for water intake still a thing?

  • You know that whole "Take your weight, cut it in half and that's how many oz of water you need to aim for every day..."
    Is that still a thing?
I'm just wondering because 64oz isn't enough for me. but over 100+ oz is getting nuts. I'm in the bathroom at least every 45 min. Sometimes every 20 min. And it's not great because of my job. I can go use the restroom whenever I want, but my productivity falls when I have to go 7 times every shift.
Plus waking up 1-2 times a night to go doesn't help either. I try to stop the water intake 2 hours before bed.
So is there a rule to the water intake? Or is it whatever we feel comfortable drinking?
On the plus side drinking 100+ oz of water is that it has killed any hunger pangs.
  • That is the amount I go by. I try to get it all in before 6 at night. I drink an 800 ml bottle on my way into work and then the rest throughout the day. I guess I use the bathroom often but I look at it as a way to remind myself to get up out of my chair and stretch.

It's a myth that refuses to die.

I drink (not necessarily water) when I'm thirsty and don't drink when I'm not thirsty. Works for me.

  • Even drinking 64 oz. makes me want to float away LOL!

That said, water is a great thing!! With every meal and before and after exercising for me, thank you! And food has water in it. Look at fruit!
