Are there any unacceptable food plans/diets in OA?

  • I attend another 12 step program and would like to incorporate OA in my step studies and include it in my tool box for coping with life's challenges. Both eating and my weight has made my life unmanageable. I am seriously thinking of going on medifast and limiting my exposure to too many food choices until things become more manageable. I am also seeking counseling to deal with some privates issues. Are there any food plans that are unacceptable in OA? I fear medifast might be too drastic for some people to accept. Wow, after a statement like that I might need CODA too Thanks
  • Technically, no. According to our OA literature, OA does not comment on any diet. Using the help of a nutritionist is encouraged. There have been times when a sponsor and sponsee have talked privately about whether a specific diet is really meeting the sponsee's nutritional needs, but that would happen after you've established a trust in each other.

Now, if you want my personal opinion on Medifast, I'll give it to you, but OA has no comment.

I would encourage you to start going to meetings, understanding that the food situation will reveal itself in good time as you live your commitment to stop using food and dieting where your higher power should be.
