I am 29 and in the past, I was a runner, cross fitter, and very active-I have always been a curvy girl but after three years of being in a wonderful relationship, I put my health on the back burner, now I look in the mirror and i'm like "omg what have I done!?"
As of last week, 08/01/2015, I started going to the gym. I have been doing 40 minuets of resistance training on the Arc trainer, and a 20 minuet free weight workout.
I feel fantastic, but my numbers on the scale are going UP! My diet is not terrible, I had a bad habit of eating last night but put the kabosh on it, I haven't been eating any later then 7. I have been eating 3 meals a day and I feel like that are balanced, I try to do NO CARB at dinner.
My weight for this week has been;
8/10 180
8/11 181
8/12 182
Why is my weight going UP!? I was at a better weight when I was eating late night and not working out! Any suggestions/ideas?
An example of my daily food intake is:
B-fast: Kashi bar with a table spoon of peanut butter OR a bagel with smart spread OR an egg white with sausage on a lite English muffin.
Lunch: Salad with chicken OR meat with veggies
Dinner: Grilled chicken, grilled cabbage, and a salad with beets.
Occasionally I will have 1/2 cup of low fat ice cream but that's rare.
I do drink on the weekends, just vodka and seltzer or red wine and not excess....
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for all your support!

Angela! Don't be alarmed! There are many reasons why the scale could be going up. First off, weight training causes tiny tears in your muscles (it sounds terrible but that's how you build muscle) which your body has to repair and it does that with the use of water. Therefore, it will retain water to repair your muscles. Since you've been working out lately, you may be retaining water. Secondly, as another poster mentioned, it could be TOM (time of month)-related. Women's cycles often cause them to retain water, either during ovulation or the week before TOM or the week of TOM. Lots of other things affect our hormones too, like stress, which can also cause us to hold onto water. Just keep eating well, watch your portions, keep drinking lots of water, and you may end up getting a "whoosh" of water weight loss any day now! Hang in there!
