New to South Beach... Sorta!

  • Ok, so years ago, I wanted to start the Atkins diet so I went to the thrift store to see if I could find a second hand copy of the book. I couldn't find it but I ended up picking up the South Beach Diet instead. To me, I said it must've been a sign to give it a try. I ended up not finishing the book and then I ended up giving it back to goodwill. Today, I go to another thrift store in an attempt to find an Atkins book and ended up not finding it but finding the South Beach Diet. I told myself I was gonna read it, cover to cover and give it a go. Started reading it and enjoying it so far. Thinking of even doing weekly video blogs. Not sure yet. I will be logging on here though just wanted to tell you all my story. Oh and I gave birth to a little boy almost 5 months ago and I'm getting married next year so time to lose this weight so I can look good in a wedding dress lol. I'm currently at 207 and my goal weight is 145.
  • Welcome Sophie!!! Reading the book, regardless of which one, is very important as it lays the ground work. SB is very doable for living a healthy lifestyle. Checking in often really helps too. The recipe section on the forum us a great tool to keep meals from getting boring. Good luck!
  • Hi Sophie! This is my second time on the Beach and I have lost 27 lbs in 14 weeks this time and my hope is to keep this as a lifestyle change and not go back to eating all the fat-filled, sugar-filled junk like I did before. The hardest part is getting through the first 2 weeks of phase 1. Make sure you eat PLENTY of beans/legumes to stave off "the South Beach flu", which is your body kind of going through a withdrawal from all the empty carbs. This is a great time of year to start with all the fresh veggies/fruits available. I have gotten more creative with my cooking using dry rubs for meats, grilling veggies, etc. If you tire of eggs for breakfast, the South Beach muffin is a great alternative. It is almost like eating a bran muffin but made with all "Beachy" ingredients. Good Luck and hope you love the plan like I do!
  • I have just started SBD, and I am one day shy of completing Phase 1. I am currently 8 lbs lighter :-) I have quite a bit to lose so I am extending Phase 2 until the end of August. I am really not having any trouble adjusting, but find that I am extremely tired by the end of the evenings...and worse on the weekends, no energy...and this is troubling me. I know my eating schedule is upside down on the weekends, meaning (regimented times to eat) unlike my M-F schedule. Anyone else experiencing Fatigue??
  • Nice to meet you, SophiCormier and QTGIA1. Fatigue is not uncommon; try a search for "south beach flu."
  • Great to meet you! Come and post often as it really helps in the beginning. I've been back on the beach since January and have lost 45 pounds!
