Hi everyone. I'm new here. So frustrated and looking for support. I'm 42, a stay-at-home mom of 3 kids, and have had to work hard my whole life to keep weight off. I am athletic, a runner (35 miles/week), I do boot camp, I'm very well-versed in nutrition and I eat well (most of the time), but my metabolism sucks, I love chardonnay, and I'm getting older, so the pounds are creeping on. I always do better when I have a community of people to help me out.
Ever since I was a teenager, even though I played year round sports, I've always had to be INCREDIBLY careful about what I eat. It's never been easy. I've pretty much always been a healthy, normal weight but there have been a couple of times (including now) when I have not been careful enough and the pounds have packed on and I get to a point where I no longer feel or look like myself and it gets me down. I need to lose 25-30 lbs to really get to where I feel good. I know there are a lot of people on here who have a lot more to lose, so I hate to say "woe is me", but it's hard as ****, especially when you ALREADY exercise a ton and make good food choices.
I know some of my bad habits -- I love wine, I pick at my kids' leftovers, and I eat too late at night, but I can't seem to get a handle on changing those habits. does anyone have any nuggets of wisdom? It's the temptations like that that have caused this....NOT that I don't know how to eat well (I love vegetables and fruits, whole grains, quinoa, lentils, beans, I eat lean protein and good fats and I don't even LIKE sweets/sugar), so you would think this would be a breeze but it isn't.
And yes, I have had my thyroid checked. I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and have been on Synthroid for 10+ years. I think the truth is just that I'm getting older and I have to be even more diligent and it's hard.
Any help or support would be wonderful. I"m about to leave on a 15 year anniversary trip to Italy with my husband, so that will be a challenge, but I'm ready to really hit it when I get home. Anyone else out there kind of like me? I'd love to connect! Thanks!

musclelover! I'm one of those people who has a whole lot more to lose than you, but I can totally understand your concern and frustration! You have 3 big things in your favor though: you exercise, you eat well, and you know the cause of your extra pounds. You are way ahead of the game! The wine is probably not an issue, but eating your kids' leftovers and eating late at night? Not good! You just have to make the decision to either scrape those leftovers into the garbage disposal or wrap them up and put them in the fridge for another meal. But putting them in your mouth, that's not an option! Why would you do that? As for eating late at night, as soon as you finish eating, go brush your teeth, floss, use mouthwash, the whole bit, and you won't feel like having to do all that again because you want to eat something that you know you shouldn't be eating anyway. You can do this! So make up your mind and do it! You'll feel so much better if you do! Glad to have you here and good luck!
