Friday the First in the Merry Month of May!

  • Here we go with one of the beautiful months that keep me living in this part of the world. One year I was in Portugal and complained to my husband that I was missing tulips, trilliums and lilacs. He was a tad annoyed since he had taken me on a glorious trip.

Yesterday was a great day because I had no meetings and just stayed home doing catch-up. To add to the happiness, my Gardener On The Go arrived and spent a solid three hours working on the beds at the front of the house. She weeded, cut back dead plants, fluffed up the earth a bit, sprayed the edges for weeds and spread black mulch. The clumps of daffodils are in bloom but the tulips have reached old age and just sent up leaves so she removed them. That means I can plant more in the fall. So nice to get it all done at once.

Today is predicted to be another great day with temps nearly at 70ºF. I guess I'll remove the box of outside lights from the porch, clean things up and get set for porch parties. I just may not answer the phone, go for the mail or check email.

Sure hope you have the same weather and are able to enjoy it!

    And TGIF!
  • Good morning, Ruth! I am also excited about the weather today and the forecast for the entire weekend: sunny and 70-ish. Since I don't have a Gardener on the Go I am hoping to get out myself and do some ground fluffing and a bit of early weeding. My daffodils are lovely right now but somehow tulips never make it in my yard. I'm not sure if its the soil, the moles or the deer.

Not much else new here; I am glad it is a Friday payday.

Got to run- I'll check back later. Have a great day, chicks!!
  • Happy 1st day of May!

LOL,Ruth! I actually woke up in the wee hours and thought about posting a line of rabbits in our opening Daily today. I can just picture your front flower bed and how pretty it must look, and hope you get a chance to sit on your porch and enjoy it today.

Yesterday was long and busy and I didn't get home until 9pm, but Audrey's Strings Ensemble Concert was really impressive and the kids got a well-deserved standing ovation. It was a nice way to end the day.

This morning I just have the usual house tidying and a load of laundry before I head over to Dad's. It's another gorgeous Spring day, so we'll probably take a nice drive out in the country and stop someplace for lunch. So far, nothing special is planned for the weekend except going out for a nice dinner probably Sunday.

Enjoy this first day of May!
  • Good morning.

    I can't believe it's May!

Jennifer - Your story literally made me LOL. Gives new meaning to the saying "don't get your panties in a bunch." Opinions on bike brands?

Coincidental to yesterday's thread, I looked at new bikes yesterday. Our biking partner got one last year that she says "changed her life" and mine is 22 years old. (I know that because I got it for my 30th birthday!) Anyhow, DH and I took mine back for an adjustment to the shifting and decided to peek while there. We ended up visiting three stores so I could compare. I was also looking at hybrids.

Gym this morning. Then errands. Then work this afternoon. Out to dinner with friends tonight.

Have a great day. Happy May!!!
  • Good morning chicks

Ruth enjoy your day staying away from the phone and email. We all need to do more of that. Can your Gardener on the Go come my way? I haven't mulched in years. My daffodils always bloom before the tulips.....like Beth if the deer don't eat them.....Linda glad you enjoyed the concert and have fun in the country with dad

Karen I love bike talk lol...I had a Schwinn World Sport from High School before I bought my hybrid (which I sold) The hybrid is great for casual riding and not too long distance. I was riding 50 miles on some rides. Both my hybrid and my road bike are Specialized. My roads bike are a Roubaix and a Dolce. The Dolce I keep on my trainer. I bought it used on eBay and it works perfectly. I love my Roubaix, but it is all carbon, very light maybe weighs 15 pounds. The newer shifters with the brakes was easy to get used to.I went with Specialized because of how I was treated at the bike shop. I bought two bikes there, but get them serviced by me. Trek, Cannondale and Biancci are all very well made. Some bike shops have lifetime free tune ups which can help offset the cost. The key to any bike is a proper fit. My bike has is a man's frame, but handlebars, stem and seat were swapped out to the female version. What a difference!!!! It can be overwhelming so take your time, ask questions and ride them all. I also learned you can haggle the price especially if you buy a previous year model. Good luck!

Ok now I am motivated to ride. It is quite chilly and overcast I may hop on the indoor bike since I really need to catch up on a few things here before going to Joe's later.

Happy May yippee it is really spring!!!!
  • Good morning and TGIF!

I am in office today for some meetings but for tonight I already bought tickets to go see the new Avengers movie with DH and DD2 and a friend.

Ruth- I need a gardener to go lol, I was looking around and it looks like I already need to weed around the house so maybe I will get to that this weekend.

    Beth have a good day

Cottage I have been impressed with how well this younger kids do with band and chorus. Enjoy your ride with your dad

Karen good luck with your bike hunting

Jekel when do you think you will hear how the interview went?

    Have a wonderful day everyone!
  • Where did the sun go???? All the sudden it's overcast and cold!
  • The sun was hanging out with me behind the barn. I sent it down your way a few minutes ago.
  • I don't mind you borrowing it, Ruth, but thanks for sending it back. I'm starting to catch glimpses of it.
