A couple of questions for those of you who have had it done...

  • I am seriously looking into having gastric bypass surgery, and I have a couple of questions about the recovery process.

First of all, I have been going to Curves fairly regularly for the last three months. I know that once I get out of the groove of exercizing, it's so tough for me to get back into it. How long was it before you physically felt that you could exert your body in that way?

Also, I have three small children (ages 5 1/2, 4, 1 1/2). While they are still young, it's not like they are infant-young, if you know what I mean. Anyway, my hubby is an awesome helper when he's at home, but obviously, he works during the days. How much time should he think about taking off from work to help me with the kids right afterward? Should we bring in the big guns (the grandmas! LOL)?

Honestly, those are my main concerns, and I don't know if I would even call them concerns. They are just issues that I want to be prepared for, to know what to expect. Any feedback would be awesome!
  • Hello, sorry we haven't responded before now. I just wanted to say welcome.

I can't answer your "early out" questions I had some problems and ended up back in the hospital.........so the beginning of my journey was not typical.

As for the young children question, hopefully Hazel will be along soon and answer that question. She had two babies to deal with after surgery.
  • What a cute little bikini babe!!!!!! Her name is Grace?

    (I hope Leenie sees this!)

Hodegard, if you decide to have the surgery I would definitely call out the big guns if they are willing and able. You are not going to be able to lift much and you won't be able to drive for a week or two and your dh might like the break. If you and your dh like having the big guns around...I sure would.

I haven't had my surgery yet...scheduled for 8/11 but I do have little kids. Hazel really will be able to give you a better perspective on this since she has had the surgery and has some little ones.

    stay, hang out, post!

  • Hey Hodegard!!

I wanted to pull this back up for you because now I have a bit of a different perspective on it.

I would DEFINETLY pull out the big guns. I am one week out and except for the heart "thing" my surgery went off without a hitch. BUT I am still a bit tired and sore. I can not bend all the way down and pick up something off the floor without using tongs. I need someone to help me put the cat food dish on the floor, I can't pick up and carry a laundry basket....you know, the little every day stuff that you HAVE to do.

    I say .....BOOK EM DANNO
