IP and Sugar Alcohols

  • I'm starting up on IP again, and I keep coming across food at the store that says it's low carb, but only if I subtract the Sugar Alcohols from the carb total. Anyone have any information of weather Sugar Alcohols will impact now IP works?

    Thanks!

Ip foods have sugar alcohols, too
  • I was told to deduct 50% of the sugar alcohol value from the carbs. Not sure what others are doing, as I've seen some people ignoring it and others deducting 100%.

I have been using the ChocoLite/ChocoRite chocolate bars as treat items without any negative impact. As sugar alcohols are generally lower on the glycemic index and take longer to break down into usable glucose before they are passed out of the body they are considered acceptable.
  • The art and science of low carb performance recommends staying away from malitol, as it has a higher GI than other sugar alcohols. They recommend xylitol as the best. FYI
