America is too good to me - Now it is time to give back!

  • Hey everyone,

I am a huge fan of 3 Fat Chicks and have been on this forum a few times over the past year mostly to read success stories and to get some inspiration from others with similar struggles.

Even though it helped, I realized I need to get actively involved... so here I am

I moved to New Jersey 2.5 years ago and I work in NYC in people management. My husband is a Jersey Boy and he scooped me up while we were both living in London, UK. I am originally from Germany and have struggled with my weight since I can remember. When I went to college I finally lost a lot of weight (50 lbs) and I maintained my ideal weight (130lbs) for 3 years.
Being a Jersey Girl for a while now has had an impact on my weight and today I went on the scale to see 152lbs. I don't want to go back to the 180lbs that I weighed 5 years ago and I am looking for a great community that supports each other.

My goal is to hit 130lbs by June 2015. I know that losing weight slowly is the best way to maintain it. Also... I want to be realistic and I know I will run into a few speed bumps thanks to the delicious American cuisine

I hope I find a group of people that is excited to share positives and negatives and that doesn't give up!

Cheers to a successful 2015! Let's do it!

  • Awesome! I've family up in New Jersey, and oh man, visiting is always a struggle in terms of trying to keep healthy. Too much good junk food :P
Sounds like a plan to me! Good luck, Mops109
  • Hi Mops!
We have similar stats but you're taller. 130 is my upper goal too, but since I'm short, I might push beyond. You can do it! Glad you decided to post. Since you already know what works, you're ahead.
  • Thank you for the welcome messages wendybird and fluffypuff.
New Jersey is definitely not very healthy but delicious... everything in moderation right?

    See you in the forum!

  • Hihi

I am another Euro transplant so also battle with American portion sizes and hidden salt/sugar in everything (oh and the fact that I have no will power does not help!). I am also aiming for 130lbs by June (a loss of 33) so will be watching how you get on. Are you following a specific diet?
  • Hey theonlywayisdown (great name btw)!

Where in Europe are you from?
I am not following a specific diet. I am generally trying to eat healthier and have a portion control. The only thing I am really sticking to is no alcohol for the next month and no carbs at night for the next few months.
    Let's see how that goes.

    How about you?
Maybe we can create a group in the forum to keep each other motivated?

    Cheers,
    Mops
  • Thanks, hoping it will be effected in reality!

Originally from the UK but lived in NY for 5.5 years now....

Your diet sounds a bit like mine - trying to make long-term sustainable changes to my diet (out with the refined-carbs, a lot less vino, lean protein, grain and veggie based), lifestyle (keeping a food diary, paying attention to my fitbit) and exercise (mixing things up more - I am a sucker for just doing my elliptical at home - and finding a group activity and finalising a big challenge for 2015).

In the past I have fallen foul of short-term, instant result diets but always regain what I loose and then get the blues and stop trying. Determined to go slow and steady this time with a focus on a perm change rather than an unsustainable fad....

Motivation sounds great - I think lots of us are new at this time of year and it would be good to have the support keep coming once the new year resolution buzz wears off!
