Having problems filling daily calorie quota

  • I've noticed for roughly the past 6 weeks I'm below my calorie count (according to MFP) by anywhere from 200-600 calories most days. MFP's recommended allowance for me is 1400. Sometimes it can't be helped because of what's available in the house at the time. Other times my sugar/fat/carb counts are too close to going over and whatever is in the house will definitely put me over or over further so I just don't eat anything more.

Any suggestions of ways too fill up the extra calories? Eating 20 stalks of celery or a bag of baby carrots is just eating too much for me. I'm hoping for some healthy calorie heavy suggestions with no sugars, etc.
  • Maybe add more healthy fats, like nut butters (there are brands that don't add sugar), avocado, plain nuts, oils, etc. That will add calories easily.

Came here to say that. Grass-fed beef if you can manage the cost. Grass-fed or goat/sheep cheese (most likely grass fed, but check if you can). I *love* "chavrie" and use it as a dip on veggies and a spread in wraps -- very mild. EVOO on salad or drizzled on entree. Add nuts to entrees. Guacamole comes in handy single serve packs you can use with veggies. Wild-caught salmon can be found fresh, frozen, canned, pouches and as lox (but look for "wild-caught": "Atlantic" salmon is almost certainly farm-raised). Don't avoid healthy fats, especially if you are low on calories!
  • Yes, make sure you are getting some olive oil in. I get my oil in when sauteing veggies. Handful of nuts.
  • I've been eating wasabi and soy sauce almonds, avocado also is a good choice!
  • Thank you for all your suggestions! I have some pretty good ideas now.
  • Jesslan,

I have a question- what are you hoping to achieve through your calorie count? I'm just curious that's all. I personally have not tinkered with calories so much- I've been more of a fan of exercise and (attempting lol) to eat healthily.

It'd be great if you can shed some light on your thought process.

  • Daniela, I first started calorie counting in October using My Fitness Pal. My hope at the time was to concentrate my weight loss efforts and hopefully lose more weight than I was alone with trying to eat better. It worked considerably better than I ever thought it would. Instead of -maybe- losing 6 lbs in 2 months I've lost between 7-10 lbs a month since I started.

I haven't focused much on exercising yet. Because of certain health problems I'm limited in what I can do. At the moment it's limited to walking with DVD's.
  • Just don't worry about it.
