Struggling to eat.

  • Has anyone else experienced a huge drop in appetite at any point?

For the past few weeks my appetite has dropped dramatically and over this last week in particular I am finding it really hard to eat.

Yesterday I don't think I had much more than 500 calories (But like a twit I exercised for an hour last night anyway) this morning I felt very unwell with no energy.

Today, although hungry, I still didn't have an appetite. I made myself eat a bowl of porridge. For lunch I had 3/4 of a cheese sandwich and for dinner I had beans on toast. It felt like I was looking at a buffet and I found it very hard eating it. I sort of made myself eat it (Again, I managed about 3/4 of it)

Is this because my stomach is shrinking, has anyone else had this and did your appetite come back? x

What exactly do you mean by that -- you are hungry but don't have an appetitie? This does not make sense to RawrGirl.
  • Sorry I should have explained better. What I mean is that my body is physically hungry but the thought of actually eating is difficult. I know I need to eat because my body is telling me I'm hungry, but I have to make myself because I personally don't have the desire to eat at the moment. Hope that makes a bit more sense
  • Only eat what you can tolerate. Maybe you're coming down with a bug. When you do eat try to eat something noursihing like a smoothie. Drink plenty of fluids. Have a spoonful of peanut butter for a boost of calories. But if you don't want to eat just don't eat.
  • That happens to me when im feeling depressed or very stressed?

How have your moods been? Have you been down lately? You mentioned that you have a lack of energy. Have you been sleeping okay?
  • I get like that too. My body obviously needs nourishment, but I have no desire to eat a thing. All I want is coffee some days, but I have to force myself to eat. Luckily I'm the cook of the house and I make meals for my bf too, so that forces me to at least have a healthy dinner with him. I know my desire not to eat stems from mental exhaustion from stress/anxiety/depression. It just feels too hard to prepare a meal some days. A fruit smoothie is a great idea though, you can just sip it slowly and still get some nourishment. Depending on your diet/caloric intake, having a glass of wine in the evening always gets my appetite going while I'm cooking dinner.
  • Some days I'm hungrier than others. I try to eat low calorie on my hungry days and then higher calorie, high protein on my not so hungry days. Peanut butter, peanuts, avocado are 3 off the top of my head that are low volume but high calorie healthy foods to eat on my not so hungry days.
  • I feel his from time to time, but it usually lasts a day or two and it's not as intense as what you are experiencing. What I find helps is not to take it to seriously and by that I mean not letting yourself get more and more involved in this feeling of not wanting to eat/being disgusted by food or whatever it is you feel. Try to eat a little because sometimes appetite will show up when you start eating. Eat whatever you feel like eating even if it is something you don't usually eat (this works wonders if you usually restrict). What i find happens to me is i feel no hunger when i'm restricting and my body needs a vitamin i'm no ingesting. If i don't get enough b12 i feel no hunger at all.
