Favorite Non-Scale Victories and Comments You Have Received

  • I was just sitting around thinking that a lot of us get so caught up with the numbers on the scale and don't stop to think about the other positive things in connection with our successes.

This week was a slow loss week for me and I was thinking about some of the NSVs and comments that I've experienced and wanted to start a thread for everyone to share their 'favorite' ones. I thought this could be fun and uplifting for some. I know I've chuckled reading some of them from other posters in various threads.

Some of my favorite random comments:
    • "Girl, you look good have you been doing CrossFit or something"
    • "I just need to stop and tell you that you look great, I saw you walking up and was like "dang, who is that?" and then realized it was you"
    • "You look like you did in High School"
    • "Have you been working out?"
    • "You look like you could be 17"

    Some NSVs:
    • Undergrowing everything in my closet. Even my 'smaller' sizes. Thankfully I can alter most of my clothes at home with my sewing skills.
    • Squeezing out of my car in a tight parking space and not dinging my door on another vehicle or a wall. Just fitting through tighter spaces in general is nice.
    • Realizing I need to buy new panties because all of mine are now too big

If I can think of some more (or if I get anymore) I will add them here. Like I said, I just thought this would be an uplifting, positive and even funny thread for anyone that may need that right now.
  • I like this idea a lot
My FAVE and most recent NSV is this: no thigh rub. I’ve worn a pair of bike shorts under my skirts and dresses for years because I couldn’t take the chafing that I’d get. But last week I bought new skinny pencil skirts and my loose bike shorts were too bulky so I went without and had no discomfort at all. I’m still marveling over it.

I’ve been keeping notes in my Beck's journal of all of the nice compliments I’ve received over the past few months and re-read them perodially just to firm up my resolve to stay on plan. I especially like when someone goes out of their way to do it (i.e. sees you, says nothing in person but calls on the phone to give you a compliment). Makes all the hard work worth it!

This!!! I also always used to wear bike shorts under my dresses. Loving the non-chafing now! I need to make a list of the benefits of the weight loss as these are the kinds of things I've forgotten.

    Other NSVs include:
Dropping into Size 6 where I had never been before and going on a guilt free shopping trip!
Fitting into a kayak on a tour and not worrying that my hips would get stuck
Having a retail assistant call me 'small and 'slim'.
  • Fun thread!

One of my fav comments was hearing a friend I hadn't seen since losing my weight announce, "You look great! I mean, you look like a TEENAGER!". Ha! I don't think that's true, but looking younger is mighty fine with me these days!

    What things do I enjoy?

    - not having a muffin top and feeling that my stomach was always being strangled
    - not worrying about my fat getting in the way of hugs from hubby and kids
    - buying clothes off the rack and knowing they will fit me
    - not feeling guilty about the food I am eating....this is a BIG one for me!

    These &
My brother telling me I look like myself again---
"you weigh 165? No, you look less than 140"
Trying on clothes and nothing sticking out!
  • After months of trying to figure it out, I just successfully managed the multiquote feature.

I can't fully attest to the no thigh rub but I know my thighs have slimmed up a lot and the rub is nearly non existent in pencil skirts (which I wear nearly every day for work). I agree that it's nice for someone to go out of their way to say something. Honestly, I don't think I would have found this program if it weren't for seeing a friend's pictures on FB and she looked AMAZING and I messaged her telling her so and she told me what she was doing. I made my appointment with my coach the very next week!

I've had a few people comment on my recent FB pics saying "You look so skinny" "You look tiny" I don't know if I will ever get used to people using THOSE words to describe me. It's a great feeling!

I can't believe how many years losing weight can take off of a person. My Mom lost a good bit of weight a couple of years ago and went through the same thing.

Those NSVs are great! I'm still losing so I'm kinda not sure what size I'm in right now. My 10s are falling off of my and my 8s that I had in my closet are getting baggy. I'm going thrift store shopping this weekend to see what I can find just so I have something for these next couple months until I settle down at my goal weight. I'm actually excited about a shopping trip for once in a really long time!!

I can definitely relate!! My family is really muscular and we all have always suffered from the 'weigh more than you look like you weigh' dilemma.

That's a great compliment from your brother!!! I got one from mine when I first saw him - he was just like "look at you skinny, mini sis". Last time I saw my family together a couple weekends ago for a football game they were asking me if I felt better healthwise and honestly, I didn't realize I felt all that terrible at my starting weight but the fact I feel so much better now speaks loads.
  • By the way - one thing that I find amusing is how different people feel about comments.

    Some people love the comments

    Some people hate the comments

Some people love the comments and then grow to hate them

Personally, as a male, I have found the best policy is not to make any comments ever.
  • Some of them make me feel uncomfortable at times. Some days I just laugh at them. It would really hurt my feelings if it were the other way around which I've been in that situation before at my starting weight. I think about that when a comment makes me uncomfortable.
  • For me it depends on how the comment is delivered. The other day someone just came up to me and said "So, have you lost a ton of weight recently?" and it kind of rubbed me the wrong way...like it was sort of backhanded. But then today a work friend said I was an inspiration to her and she was starting a new work out routine because she's seen me "melting away." That made my day. So, depends on the delivery I guess. I also don't like it when people ask how much I've lost, seems invasive, but that's just me.

As for NSV's, I love fitting in a size 10, and even needing a belt for some of my new size 10 pants! I don't remember ever being below a 12 since I've been doing my own shopping. Also looking forward to exercising without a big belly flopping in front of me (ew!). I also love catching my reflection in the window or a mirror and not ducking away immediately. So maybe I've become a little vain...so what?
