It's 2am and you're hungry...

  • So this is something that has been on my mind for a while and I think I need to get other people's opinion(?) on this. Just out of curiosity.

Suppose it's some ridiculous time in the am—2am, 3am, 4am—and all of a sudden your stomach is growling. Do you:

    (a) "listen to your body" and go have a snack (and which)?
    (b) dismiss the thought because, I mean, look at the time. Or "I already ate", or "No, no that's just a craving"... whatever it is
  • I either have something super light, like a cheese stick and a bunch of water, or I take that as my cue to go to sleep.
  • I quite often wake in the wee hours (three children later my bladder isnt the best lol) and feel SO hungry its crazy but I ignore it and go back to sleep. Surprisingly I don't wake super hungry though!?
  • I've tried listening to the cravings and I've always felt too stuffed to go back to sleep. When I feel hungry, it's usually because I'm stressed/have insomnia so I put some calming music and eventually get to sleep. Might not work for everyone but usually does for me!
  • I just suck it up or drink water and go back to sleep.I dont think the body was meant to eat in the middle of the night. It must be very hard for shift workers to keep a good eating schedule.
  • When we are overly tired our body is crying out for something. It's saying "I either need to sleep or you need to provide me with more energy so I can stay up longer." In other words, I think your body is just saying it's tired. Eating that late at night is terrible for digestion.
  • If I'm hungry at 2am, it is most likely because I didn't eat enough the previous day and I use that as a data point. I go back to sleep and consider how to use that data point for future days.
