Finding My Day 1

  • Hello all,

I was on the board several years ago & had great success losing 120 lbs. Unfortunately, I had to take medication which made me have food cravings that I gave in to.

I regained almost all the weight I lost.

I've been off the meds for about 6 months now, but I'm finding it incredibly hard to change my habits.

I need my day 1. I'm not going to be drastic and plan to follow Weight Watchers, but I just can't seem to start.

How did you find your day 1?
  • Hmmm... I think I found it by deciding that I can't change the past, but I can try to make "better" choices today... For example, if I'm at a point where I HAVE to have something bad, I try to have less of it, or something "less" bad... Just begin to adjust your habits in small ways, and then you can work towards adjusting them a bit more here and there as you go along.

    Best of luck,

    Dean
  • Welcome back Oldnewbie!
Good question. I don't recall exactly but it was something like this:
Sometimes if something seems overwhelming (like losing half of my weight) I need to break it down. Maybe try to eat healthy for one month and then tell yourself you will decide if you want to do it for another month.
    Good luck!
  • I think Dean gave you great advice. Take it slowly! Start by signing up for My Fitness Pal and just tracking what you eat without any changes. After a week of that, try doing 1 thing differently (add more fruits or vege or whatever you want to do) and work on that for a week, etc. For me, NOTHING is off limits - I just eat what I want in moderation. Once I get into the "you can't have that" mindset, it's ALL I want and can derail me pretty quickly. Also... drastic changes may not work... for example, I am a fast food junkie. Instead of saying, "I won't eat any fast food this week", I've had to slowly cut myself back by saying "let's see if I can only go 4 days this week instead of every day" and then lower it as I go. Writing a list of reasons you want to lose weight could be motivational, as well as some goals and rewards for yourself or a weight loss bucket list.

Good luck and welcome back to the boards!
