leg and foot cramps

  • Hi,

I'm new to this bb but not new to lc. I am maintaining now but still having a tough time with leg and foot cramps in the night. Dr. checked my potassium and sodium levels this week and they are ok so go figure. I'm at a loss as to what I'm missing in my diet. I take a multi, vit. E,C and selenium. I take magnesium and calcium w D (1200mg.) What am I missing? Julie
  • Jewels, the only thing I have ever heard to help this is Potassium...but since you said yours is good, I don't know! Oh..I forgot something..is it called quinine? My father was told to take that by his cardiologist after he had open heart surgery. They took some of the veins in his legs, and now that his circulation isn't as good, he gets restless legs. Maybe that will help you? I'd ask your doctor first!

    PS, Welcome to the boards!
  • Hi Jennifer,
Sorry to hear about your dad and hope he is doing ok now. RLS is not caused by bad circulation but it is a neurological condition. I take good med for mine. My only problem right now is the cramping. I go to the doc tomorrow. I've heard of quinnine but don't think it really helps but we'll see. Here is some good sites if you want to look up facts on RLSs.

Sure hope this helps you understand this problem. Now if only I had an answer to my leg cramps. Hopefully the doc will be able to. Hope he doesn't tell me to get off the lc. That is my worry. Julie
  • Have you recently started an exercise program? Maybe your muscles are just not used to it?
  • As a matter of fact, I had to quit my yoga class as I kept getting cramps doing some of the stretches. Will find out tomorrow. Julie
  • I actually had a water defincency when I kept getting cramps!!!!

My doc reccomended a Pre Nadal vitamin and MSM with 9 glasses of water a day. Did that for one day and never had a leg cramp since. It may not be potassium, it may be water or circulation. MSM is something marathon runners take to combat their muscle cramps.

Hope this helps, and don't feel bad...it happens a lot...it happen'd to me!
  • I drink about 100 oz. of plain water a day! I also am taking MSM with my Glucosuman.
