  • Hi everyone,

I am in need of some good tunes to put on a playlist for a gym workout to keep me motivated! I currently only have 5 songs on my MP3 (I know....).

Any ideas/suggestions for upbeat music that would be good for cardio? And maybe some songs for cooling off/stretching?

    Thanks!

    Kitkat
  • lol it might sounds dorky but .... one song makes me not give up and keep jogging even when i have no strength is "macarena"ahhahaha. True story! lol
  • Haha, that's great! At least if I add it to my playlist now it will make me smile while I'm dying on the treadmill because I'll remember your comment, lol.

I also just Googled the translated lyrics to Macarena to see what the chorus is in English!
  • Pump it by Blackeyed Peas always gets me moving.

Hit 'em up Style by Carolina Chocolate Drops

    Ready by Cat Stevens

A new one 8 Dogs 8 Banjos by Old Crow Medicine Show

I like to listen to podcasts on the treadmill, too, to change things up.
  • I just use the Pandora Workout station, if you have access to Pandora on your player
  • Depends on your taste of music....
I have tons of songs on mine...
    Amber: Yes
    C&C Music Factory: Boriqua Anthem
King of the Dance Hall (forgot who sings it. I wanna say Shaggy?)
    Beyonce: Single Ladies
    Katy Pery: Hot n Cold
    Sean Paul: Gimme the Light
    Ciara: 1, 2 Step
    Elvis Crespo: Suavemente

Really you just want any songs that are up beat and that makes you feel good.
I mostly have a lot of pop, reggae, hip hop, or salsa, merrengue, bachata, Cumbia, etc. They make me feel good because they make me want to move and also reminds me of my childhood.
  • A couple of my favorites:

    Rudimental - Not Giving In
Avicii - Hey Brother (it is a weird song, but has a great beat)
  • I like 80s hair bands for working out myself. Haha
  • Start203, I love to listen to bachata while working out! I thought I was the only one. I'm a little obsessed w Joan Soriano.

I'm gonna try to come back later w a list of good workout music. My kids are tearing my house down right now.
  • lol yeah, well I was born in Puerto Rico so I love all Latino music. Reminds me of home.
  • Wow, thanks everyone! I'll give some of these a listen.

Look forward to the list, Rubidoux - hope your house is still in tact!
  • Quote: Depends on your taste of music....
I agree with this. It also depends on what type of work out you are doing. If its weight machines at the gym, I guess a lot of types of music will do. But I find that when I am walking/jogging, a lot of the music that I ordinarily listen to doesn't lend itself to that type of workout. When walking/jogging, I need something with a fast beat to keep my legs moving fast!

So, when I'm walking/jogging, I tend to listen to things like:

Daft Punk - "Around the World / Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" (From Alive 2007)
    Wolfgang Gartner - "Illmerica"
    Deadmau5 "Ghosts n' Stuff", "Animal Rights", & "Suckfest 9001"
Muse - "Uprising" - and just about anything else they perform.
    Hyper - "Cascade"
    Justice - "Genesis"
    Ronald Jenkees "Stay Crunchy"
Social Distortion "Cold Feelings", "Bad Luck"
  • I just turned on the cardio station for I heart radio and the first song...Sexy and I Know It. I will admit I cracked up.
  • I love the playlist of 'Body Attack 85' for cardio. I always try to go to the gym while the Body Attack classes take place, so I can use the music to give me energy. It's on YouTube.
  • There's two that really stand out for me.

    1. Hey Boy, Hey Girl - Chemical Brothers
I absolutely love this song, not just for working out but in general. It comes into its own on my workout playlist though. It's pretty high tempo, has a good beat and encourrages me just because I love it so much.

    2. Death - White Lies
I like all sorrts of music. One of my favourite bands are White Lies. This is by far their best song. It has a nice but slow build up but when it gets into it I can't help but work hard!

I hope these give you some motivation and inspiration!
