Its times like these I realize how much I feel "at home" at 3FC. THe only other person that knows is my husband. I found out a few days ago while on vacation (we are still here too) that I'm pregnant.

Now, originally we were done. Then we said we wanted a 4th. Then we ultimately decided on done again. This was because of several reasons. I get VERY sick during my pregnancy. Also we had 2 m/c before our last and I didn't want to go through that again. I JUST started a new job and I JUST went back to school (I have like 4 classes left). Besides, my cycle is so irregular, and it often is so short, I just figured I wasn't evening ovulating much any more...

Wrong.

So I'm pregnant! And we are happy, but I'm just nervous and cautious because its so early and I've had 2 early m/c before. I see the doc Monday. We aren't telling anyone right now until we know what's going on.

I'm also scared because I just went back to work and I don't want to quit, but I get REALLY ILL during the first trimester. Like in the hospital, can't stop vomiting, lost like 15 lbs in a few weeks kind of ill. I had to leave my last job last time because I was too sick to go to work. I don't know what to do...This is my biggest concern if the pregnancy is healthy.

Oh for anyone that saw the gallbladder post on this board, I've read that being pregnant can aggravate gallbladder issues, even this early (I'm about 4 1/2 -5 weeks I think). I'll have to hold of on the too.

Anyway, I'm dying to talk to someone and share all these worries, but I don't have anyone in my life that I can talk to about *this* kind of stuff. So I came here.

What you are describing sounds like hyperemesis gravidarim - I developed hyperemesis like, the day I conceived. In fact, I didn't find out I was pregnant until two months in, because I had lost 12 pounds and assumed I'd be gaining weight if I was pregnant. Nothing ever stopped it, but my doctor prescribed me a high dose of Zofran and it helped IMMENSELY - the liquid vials seemed to work faster and better than the dissolving pills. There's also a protein shake your doctor can prescribe (which I found nasty, unfortunately) that are a lot easier to keep down, and IV fluids/nutrition that you can administer yourself at home. Have you tried any of this during your other pregnancies? If not, I would definitely ask your OB pronto! The one downside is apparently, it's expensive, and our insurance at the time (which was an expensive PPO) would only cover 12 freaking pills a month when I took about 6-8 a DAY. My OB is very close to my family and was able to find a way around that so I could have the medication covered, but at the time, I don't think there was a generic, so that might be an issue for you - although I think your doctor can appeal your insurance company's refusal to cover it, if that becomes a problem.

Will you have to hold off on handling your gallbladder until after giving birth?

Oh oh, Family Medical Leave Act - I've been out of the loops for six years now, but complications from pregnancy (and hyperemisis is one, it's classified as "high risk") entitles you to protection under FMLA if you and your employer meet the requirements. Last time I worked with it, you did have to have 12 months of consecutive employment and worked a minimum of 1250 hours during those 12 months to qualify, but it entitled you to up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for, among other things, complications from pregnancy. You aren't entitled to pay, but your employer is required to hold your job for you during the time you are on leave under FMLA. You said you just went back to work, so I'm guessing you don't have the 12 month/1250 hours, but just in case!

Congratulations! No good advice, each of my pregnancies have been different - with this one I'm struggling with placenta previa and some bleeding issues, and exhaustion. But not a single bout of vomiting despite huge nausea. I've had two that had almost zero symptoms and were picture perfect pregnancies. And moderate symptoms with healthy pregnancies and losses, too. I've pretty much given up on trying to predict how it's going to go

Thank you all! I have not been at this company long enough for FMLA. I am per diem as well. I have dr apt tomorrow so I will likely get my hcg drawn to see if this is even a viable pregnancy. I have hope though because with my losses, the + test never got really dark then got lighter before m/c. So far my line has only gotten darker to the point that its so dark that its pointless to keep taking tests.

All the thoughts I am having over work and telling them, when I would tell them etc, I'm trying not to think about until we have reached a point of some kind of security (12 weeks). For me, since my history is very early m/c I want to get past those early weeks before thinking about the coming months.

So far I feel good, which worries me of course. I have my weird food aversions and preferences. Not cravings. But I remember this with every other baby. No nausea, though.

ArcticMama, I didn't know you were expecting. When are you due? I was thinking about you the other day, I remember you saying you home school, right? I don't know any homeschoolers in our area though I'm sure they exist. DH and I were talking about our oldest son (almost 7) he's very high functioning autistic. He really has a lot of social challenges. He LIKES to be social but doesn't read others well and his behavior is very immature and to be honest the older he gets the more he stands out from his peers. He wqas targeted last year, and was being bullied and to make a long story short he didn't even know it, he thought the other boy was his friend. It was the bus driver that noticed and brought it to our attention.
Anywa I was talking to DH about the coming years, and his self esteem and we know what he's in for. And I said, imagine if I home schooled him, do you think his self esteem would remain intact? I was really curious is children that are home schooled reach adulthood with a better self esteem than those in school that are subjected to bullying...Anyway I wanted to ask you about your experience with this. And since this is my thread, I figured I can hijack it! lol

Congratulations!!! We go back and forth on the idea of having another. I do hope all goes well and you can add to your sweet brood.
