Weight loss and appearance of tattoos?

  • Does anyone know how it affects tattoos if your losing a significant amount of weight.? 'm getting one as a graduation gift this next weekend on the underside of my fore arm. Its going to cover most of it (But a quote not an image... 3 large words). Will it get messed up as I lose weight? Is there anything I can do to keep that from happening?
  • I have on my wrist but that isn't a place were the tattoo would be negatively impacted by weight loss.

Have you noticed good elasticity with your skin so far? If you have it shouldn't be much of a problem.

    Personally I would hold-off though.
  • I got one as a graduation gift to myself a little over a year ago and I was worried about that too, I specifically chose a location that wouldn't change much whether I lost a bunch or gained a bunch (outside of my calf close to my ankle) and its looked stunning ever since!

I'd worry a little about one on my arm (I'm pretty self-conscious about my flabby arms though) but there are worse places for one that would be affected more like on your tummy of hips.

It might change a bit as you loose weight, but it *will* change a bit as you get older too, it's just something tattoos do! They never stay perfect and unaffected by life, they change as we do, make sure you accept that beforehand!

Good luck if you decide to get it!
  • Thanks you guys! I am going to do it! I read it will only change a little and may even end up looking better (At least that's what some people have said). And Suzll you are so right. It will change with me. And honestly I'm okay with that.

Also I changed what it will be. It's going to be of the robot from Meet the Robinsons Disney animated film. The scene where he pops out to red flags over his head that say "Keep, Moving, Forward." I love that motto and that movie (It's a heart touching film and also funny).

So yea I can't wait! I have an appointment for Saturday to get it done!

    Thanks again!
