Atkins induction

  • Day 3 of Atkins diet. My legs feel shaky and my insides do too. Normal?
  • Shaky is a vague term. But in general if your body had become a sugar buner it is used to needing carbs throughout the day. If you deprive it of those it is going to go woah where are my carbs.

But your body can and 'wants' to be a fat burner. I say wants to because that is the default state we evolved in. It is why we all carry tens of thousands of calories as fat and only transitory amounts as carbs in our muscles.

So that is the science, in practice you need to awaken the fat burning. But you will often feel bad in the transition. Adding salt and magnesium have been shown to help. I didn't ever go to induction levels so my transition, the acute phase, lasted a few days and wasn't as bad as some. I still craved carbs for a month or two. But then that got much better.

Sounds like "Atkins Flu". Be sure you are drinking plenty of water. Try some chicken broth (NOT low sodium). This has been known to help.
Some experience "Atkins Flu", some do not. It is your body's way of transitioning to low carb.
  • Butterfly - I experienced that and more in the first few weeks...it will get better...hang in there
