Newbie: Can this diet work if Atkins didn't do the job?

  • Why do you feel this works better than Atkins or don't you feel that way. I lost 4 pounds in 2 months of strict atkins. Never went off the induction in 8 weeks. I became disillusioned and quit. How do you that have tried both, think that this diet could help a person like me. Or can't it?
  • I am not an expert on SBD.
But, I am getting ready to switch from Atkins, too, and for the same reasons as you. Atkins has helped me in many ways, but it has left me high and dry and afraid to leave induction. I chose this diet because it is balanced, low in carbs and fat, and it shows me exactly what foods I can try to add in and still expect to lose weight. I don't have to guess, or spend the rest of my life counting everthing I eat. All I have to do now, is jump in, and try to learn what choices are best for me. Sounds like that has to work as a long term plan!
  • Not everyone loses weight on Atkins or other low carb plans. Every person is different, and our bodies need different things.

SBD starts out very low carb, during the 2 week phase 1, but then you get to gradually add carbs back into the diet. Good carbs, though. I personally think it's healthier than Atkins because it concentrates on good fats, in moderate amounts.

SBD isn't really a low carb plan. It isn't like a standard low fat, either. It's really the best of both worlds. Good carbs, good fat.

Do you exercise? No matter what diet I follow, if I don't exercise, I don't lose weight. Zilch.
  • Me too !
This is my 3rd week into the induction (Atkins) and the scale is barely moving, I mean barely.

I don't know what I'm going to do if I don't see results in a few weeks, I know I can't do the light salad dressings, can't stand the taste.

Back to the drawing board..... BUT one thing I do know is that I am going to low carb what ever I do.

    I'm thinking of 1400 - 1500 calories w/100 carbs or less?
    Just a thought....
