The Flu

  • Can't keep anything down today except some seltzer water. I usally eat some crackers or a dry piece of toast when I am sick but nothing op stays down.... what to do.
  • I had the flu on my first week of IP. I had the soup and shakes. For dinner I had the chicken and steamed vegetables, it was hard. My body sure didn't want the meat and veggies. I also drank peppermint tea, that calmed my stomach a lot.

I think you should eat whatever stays down. The flu is nothing to fool with. Your body needs nourishment. Try a cracker.

The "flu" is a respiratory thing, not a stomach ill....but there are a lot of viral stomach and GI bugs that are no fun! While NOT the flu..there is a worry of dehydration. If you are really vomiting and "other" stuff...sometimes it is best to just try ice chips for keeping dehydration from taking hold initially. Usually the way food is reintroduced (waiting until the vomiting stops for several hrs...or longer) to an inflamed GI and stomach after a severe bout of this, is the BRAT diet. Small amounts of Bananas, Rice Apple sauce Toast...in that order...and usually spaced by several hrs to see how your system tolerates food...slowly.

Sorry you don't feel well...what ever it is. Take care! Rest...
  • I've had a stomach bug all week know how you feel, my coach said to also drink electrolyte's I think there's a powerade zero that has no sugar in it. Also I've taken some of my drinks like the orange one And made it into jello and Popsicle's.
  • My DH got super dehydrated one time from food poisoning, which can certainly mimic stomach bugs

The ER told me to give him Gatorade. So....I suggest getting some Propel or other 0 cal gatorade-like sports drink to replace electrolytes when you can't keep anything down.

Last time I had a stomach bug I just did clear liquids (chicken broth or chicken boullion and unsweetenened flavored seltzer) until I could start to keep food down again.

So sorry to hear you're sick!
  • Thanks everyone for the suggestions.. I felt so bad eating my piece of toast. But I know that staying well during periods of sickness is important as well as staying op. I am making myself some crock pot chicken soup but with no noodles will add the ones i ordered from Nasua later. But the broth is doing well. I am starting to feel better although missing 2 days at work is never fun for the pocket book. My boss made a comment to me this morning when I called him saying I wasn't going to be in. He said.. I know you are sick when you stay home.... I never stay home.
