Noobie needing motivation!

  • Hello!

    I'm Angie. I'm 23, 5.10.5 and 201lbs.

I lost weight a few years ago by having a very active job and generally being too busy to eat, so managed not to follow a particular diet but lose 2 stone!

In the past year I have put it all back on - a combination of going travelling around Asia and eating all their yummy delicacies, then moving to France to work and live for a few months (so much cheese and bread!), then binging on all the food I've missed over the year whilst back in the Uk for a month over Xmas!

Another contributing factor is the classic new relationship syndrome! Unfortunately my boyfriend has a massive appetite, loves food (but doesn't cook it) and is slim! I tend to cook hearty meals for the both of us, and because he's eating so much, when my plate is even 2/3rds of his, it's still much bigger than the average person's meal..,I've only just realised this recently as we are eating with other people.

My concern is that my lifestyle isn't very structured - at the moment I'm at my boyfriends parents' house in France for a few weeks, then I'm going to work in a ski resort for 2 months, then I'm back working on a canal barge for the summer. I find it hard to lose weight when you are not in a routine.

What I do know is that the only part of my life that makes me unhappy is my weight. Not only have I become self conscious, but I've noticed my fitness decreasing which makes me scared to agree to do some active things incase I am embarrassed. I have avoided going to the doctor about contraception because I am ashamed of my weight, and I even lied to my boyfriend about signing up for a zip wire activity (which I would love) because I'm afraid that they would weigh me in front of him.

It's time for a change - and I guess this is the perfect website to help me along the way!

    Sorry for the essay!

  • Hi Angie, WELCOME!
I know how you feel! My partner eats SO much and is a stick. I thought I was eating the 'female' portion compared to him, then realised that most people don't eat 22 pieces of sushi (he eats like 30!).
My advice - literally eat off a smaller plate or bowl! It really works. All the best! Keep up posted
  • Hi Angie, my story is similar to yours. Remember, you can change your life and the best thing you can do for yourself is be positive and take it day by day!
  • Hi, angienofrills! Nice to "meet" you. Yeah, don't you love those wonderful guys and gals who can eat everything and not gain an ounce? Ah, well, we're all blessed in different ways, no?

    Anyway, welcome to the forum!
