  • Hello everybody, Ive been reading some of the posts and find them to be very exciting. I'm looking for some advise on getting results.

    I'm 5'9" and weigh 170. I have been hiking for the last 6 months 8 to 10 miles 3 or 4 times a week, as well as doing pilates 3 times a week. I eat 2 or three times a day tracking calories on average eating about 1000 to 1200 calories. After doing all these things my body will not lose a pound. Currently 170 and I am trying to get down to 150.

    Any ideas about why Iam not makeing any progrees? I always weigh 170. Has anyone experience that same problem?

  • It may sound crazy but if you are consistently hiking 8-10 miles a day I'm going to say you are not eating enough to fuel it. Your body likes to hold onto weight/fat if you're not feeding it properly and exercising a ton.

    I know it really makes no sense but I was stuck for almost 5 months eating around 1500 calories. As soon as I bumped it up to a MINIMUM of 1700 the pounds started to come off again. And I am no where near as active as you are. I walk about 4km a day. And do Tae bo for 25 minutes 3x a week.

    I'd recommend using this calculator http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/ to figure out your BMR and TDEE. Your BMR is the amount of calories your body needs to maintain it's weight doing nothing. It's not recommended to eat lower than that at least for a sustained amount of time. What a lot of people recommend doing is eating at your TDEE (the amount of calories you need to maintain your weight at your specific activity level) -20%.

    Again, I know it sounds really weird, but try it for a couple weeks and see what happens. Good luck.
  • Hi Karin! I second what Changergirl said. Sometimes we have to shake up our metabolism to get it to work more efficiently again by doing something unexpected like temporarily eating more calories. Definitely give it a try. Good luck!
